Must-read
Tamara published ‘Stories of 20 mighty Muslim heroes’ in 2021 and after popular demand released another one in 2022. Since I time I joined bookstagram, have seen the first book popping every now n then so obviously Alhamdulillah was lucky enough to have received an ARC of the 2nd one.As the name suggests, Tamara has painstakingly compiled 20 Muslim heroes across the globe and time. Such books become even more important in the times that we are living in where Muslim name, attire, and even a mere mention of ‘Allahu Akbar’ scares the shit out of people. Thanks to the western media, a few Islamic fanatics, few Muslims(for namesake but puppets of the West), Muslims are either terrorists or non-educated, following the 1400-year-old traditions of Burkha-clad ready-to-be-rescued women. So before starting the review, I would like to thank and appreciate all the effort Tamara and all the other Muslim women are putting in to change everybody’s perspective.Out of 20 heroes, 11 women are included since as early as the 6th century. How aptly with proof Tamara proved a simple fact that women were always part of the society, learning and teachings like Al-Shifa bint Abdullah or Umm ad-Darda as-Sughra and not just women but men also, discovering astrolabes like Mariam al-Asturbi, doing business-like, being an excellent doctor and whatnot. So, go read the book and learn about such amazing Muslims and their contribution to our society. Now, it's not just non-muslims, even educated, modern Muslim men are confused and unaware of what all Muslim women can or cannot do. The patriarchal mindset always played a hindrance. So, next time you see Muslim women complaining about their situation, please don’t blame Islam. Islam gave women the right to education, the choice of whom to marry, provided security with Mehr, and gave freedom to walk out of toxic relations by taking khula and much more.
