I bought this after reading recommendations about using an external SSD drive as your aging iMac's primary boot device. We have a 2017 iMac that was just taking forever to open up documents, boot, do anything pretty much. Beachball's galore, everything was taking ages. And with each successive OSX upgrade (now running Ventura) it just got slower and slower. The fault, I learned, was the aging hard drive they put in there....a very, very slow device. So I bought this, followed the instructions to format it as a Mac Ventura OSX boot partition, did the whole migration off of the native hard drive and...wow....our iMac is -SCREAMING FAST- now. Apple may have let me down with the "it just works" promise, but this little investment will easily get us another couple of years out of the family iMac! Well worth the investment!

I have had a lot of issues trying to find a ssd external drive that will work with my 16 inch 2019 MacBook Pro but all of the drives I had tried ram really got and either dropped off during transfer or would not show up after reboot. I came across this one and did not see any complaints with that regard and the price point was lower that Samsung or sandisk for the same performance (although apple is selling for 200 more 😂). I am pleasantly surprised that 1 it worked without the heat or dropping and 2 the performance is on par with the other 2. That you for saving the rest of my hair.

The drive came already formatted to work on either a PC or a Mac. It did run on the current Mac OS Monterey, but it was rather sluggish. When I copied an MP4 movie to the drive, it would stop when it was playing if you paused or rewound it during playback. This problem was consistent with any MP4 movie. I reformatted the drive under Mac OS journaled and both of these problems went away. Movies play fine and the speed retuned to what I had been expecting. Several comparable drives on Amazon had complaints of excessive heat during long or heavy use, but this one stays near room temperature. I would buy this one again.

I started getting indications my 5 year old iMac’s drive was going. I worked Google hard to find solutions, and then to ensure I knew exactly what steps to take and in what order. I ordered this drive to be my external ‘boot drive.’ The entire process was straightforward and came off without a hitch. Performance was equal or better that with the internal Mac drive. Great transaction!

This is a very small SSD. This could be carried in your pocket, if one wanted to. On my 14 inch MacBook Pro coupled with Apple's Thunderbolt 4 cable, the Data transfer is very fast. This drive would need to be formatted to APFS to enable encryption capabilities. this drive comes formatted with xfat formatting, this just allows this drive to be used both on Windows and MacOS. Nothing to it, very easy to format.

This is a great replacement for older disk-based drives for use on MacOS Time Machine backups. Very small so plugged into USB-C port on back of LG display. Fast backup too.

It is listed to use on both Mac and Win. The sad truth is that it comes with FAT and you have to reformat it to Mac Extended or APFS to be abole to use it. APFS is preferred according to the LaCie website. Only it canno9t be reformatted to APFC but only Mac Journal Ext. I dide so but the data transfer was so slow, I gave up. I retrurned it and got full refund…Thank you Amazon. I ordered and got a Sandisk Extreme Pro SSD. I was formatted to APFC and ther data transfer is going fast and smooth, unlike the LaCie. I started using LaCie when they were an independent company , but now they are owned by Seagate. I had previously purchased LaCie by Seagate 5TB hard drives and all died within a few months. I'll stick with Sandisk now.

Solid State unit was easy to set up and great capacity. Expensive but easy to use and great durability.

This is tiny and so easy to setup. The speed is outstanding and it’s size is easy to work with anywhere. This is the best external storage item I have ever owned and works with all my computer’s and like lightning with my new Mac Studio Ultra. Fantastic well made item.

Fast and the right amount of memory I needed

Arrived much sooner than advertised. Opened the box and was able to see how small this item was. I know SSD drives were small but this surprised me. The style is really nice too. You can have this hidden away or on display as the design is really nice to look at. Bit disappointed by the length of the USB C cable. It’s very short, and there is really no excuse for this. The drive is a bit hit and miss on speed but I think that’s due to my laptop not having thunderbolt ports. That said, it’s fast enough for what I use it for and it has a lot of storage. A great purchase

Small, high quality & snappy.... Use it for time-machine backups on Mac, as well as 1TB partition for general media... Highly recommend this....

Using this as an external SSD boot disc for a 2013 iMac. This brand was recommended and it has worked flawlessly - the iMac now runs like a new machine.
