Bike U Lock with Cable - Via Velo Heavy Duty Bicycle U-Lock,14mm Shackle and 10mm x1.8m Cable with Mounting Bracket for Road, Mountain, Electric & Folding Bike

This locks is very suitable for my purposes. The price was right and the quality seems good. I like the fact that it is covered with a rubbery material that keeps it from scratching my bike. The mount for the bike is fine but its a bit of effort to get the cable secured with the lock in such a way that it does not interfere with riding. On my bike I have a basket and usually throw the lock in the basket in transit so this is not such a problem for me. We bought two of these locks. One for me and one for my partner. He dropped the key for his in the water beside our boat at the dock which means he is down to one key. I saw this lock on sale on Amazon the other day for about $20 but did not order another one like I should have. If it goes on sale again Ill get my partner another lock and use his old one to lock a shopping cart to the door handle of one of those people who take up two parking places to protect their beautiful cars from the unwashed masses. For this alternative application a spare key, or even one key, would not be necessary. Update October 9: As I mentioned above my partner dropped one of the keys for his lock into the water beside our boat. When the folks at Via Velo read my review they immediately contacted me for my mailing address and the key code. They shipped spare keys, from China, for his lock. They work fine. I had the new keys in less than a week so now we don't have to worry about breaking out the hacksaw if my partner dropped his remaining key in the drink. In the time since I wrote my original review I have used this lock dozens of times and when I lock my bike at the gym I look at the other bikes with the $100 locks on them and cant see the difference between those and my Via Velo lock. When you add to the quality of the product the obvious commitment to customer service this company has, I am enthusiastic about what other products these folks might offer.

If you're looking for a good, solid lock this ViaVelo is a great choice. It's tough, simple to lock and flexible to mount in several locations. You may want to try mounting the lock a couple of different ways to see which will work best for your bike and riding style. The instructions show mounting positions on the seat post, down tube and crossbar. You may find other spots that work depending on your bike's design. I think the mount works on most tubes between 20mm and 42mm. It can be a little tricky to install, so make sure to follow the directions to secure it properly. For me, the best option was mounting on the crossbar back toward the seat post. I thought there were fewer vibrations in that spot even on trail and city rides. The lock action is smooth and the keys do not jam. It also has an onboard cap to keep your locking mechanism dry when not in use. The cable is strong and just the right length to secure your bike without being too bulky to bring along on a ride. You may need to practice the best way to use the U-lock and cable to secure both wheels and your frame. There are videos online with some great ideas if you need help with that. After a full season of use, I did have a part break on the mount. So, I contacted customer service and they offered to send me a replacement straightaway. So, it's good to know on a purchase like this that the company is standing behind their product. Overall, this is a great lock for me and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another ViaVelo.

Very nice bike lock, I was even able to use it nicely without the cable. It’s easy to unlock, it’s thick enough to where a thief can’t cut it without significant effort (or more likely power tools). My only gripe is that the mount that this comes with to secure it to your bike when you’re not using it is very bulky. I have yet to find a bike that it fits onto without the lock ramming into some other part already on the bike while fitted. I’ve just been locking the bike lock when not in use, and hanging it on my handlebar.

Sturdy, 3 keys 🔑 and its cheap via velo is a great lock I've had the other one too its good lock for locking 🔒 a regular bike i wouldn't lock a ebike to this lock but any other like mountain bike would do

Works well. It keeps my e-scooter secure while I go to class. It’s safe enough for an area such as a college campus. The thickness is fine and the key opens the lock smoothly.

I’ve been using this lock for my e-scooter and it’s been very useful. It feels sturdy, works smoothly, and gives me peace of mind when parking. The cable is a nice bonus for securing the wheel. Great value for everyday use.

Got two of these for my son's bike who's 12 and it's easy for him to use and he really likes it they're very functional the cable is just long enough to do everything it needs to do

I love this lock. My bike has been my only transportation since August of 2018, and that's how long I've had my lock. You can twist a section on the lock to cover the keyhole and prevent dirt from getting inside, but even without using that cover, the lock is just as smooth to lock and unlock as it was the day I bought it. The lock has some scrapes around the places where the U-shaped piece of metal meets the lock mechanism itself, so it has clearly done its job and prevented somebody from stealing my bike. The cable is also nice, although I don't use it often because I don't want the added weight. My only con when it comes to this bike is the mounting system. I'd give that three stars. Over time as I rode my bike on bumpy city roads and used the mounting system, it loosened up and stopped holding the lock firmly in place (allowing it to rotate while mounted), so it would either bang against the bike or my legs. Then, about a year ago, the mounting system broke off mid-ride. The section that broke was not the piece that attaches to the bike, it was the piece attached to the lock itself. This is a small con, though, and doesn't matter too much to me as I carry the lock in my backpack most of the time anyways. I would definitely recommend this lock to anyone, and I would definitely buy it again!

I’ve been using this lock for over three years now, and it’s been great — strong, durable, and reliable. When I first bought it, I had the same issue many customers mentioned: the key sometimes got jammed. I learned to wiggle it slightly, and it would open fine. After a few months, it got worse, so I cleaned it with WD-40 and added a little oil — since then, it’s worked perfectly. It does rattle a little bit and make some noise when I ride, but that doesn’t really bother me. As long as it’s strong and durable, I’m happy! It’s been mostly kept outdoors, exposed to rain and harsh weather, yet it’s still in great condition. For the price, the quality is excellent. I’d definitely recommend it and would buy it again.

Buena calidad y seguridad para la bicicleta. Al montarlo en el cuadro suena con el movimiento al andar pero a mí me sirve para que los peatones me escuchen : ) El cable excelente para asegurar ambas ruedas. No necesité gastar en un ULock de gama alta. Recomendado!

Dieses Schloss ist gut es lässt sich gut befestigen und wirkt stabil. Das auf und zuschließen funktioniert leicht ohne zu klemmen. Die Beleuchtung am Schlüssel funktioniert nicht es stellt für mich jedoch kein Problem dar. Insgesamt ist es ein gutes Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis

The lock for the price is a great buy, it is sturdy, and the added bonus cable at 1.8m is a great addition to secure my front wheel in high-risk areas. What is great you have peace of mind by using a QR code to register your key number to order keys if you lose the two you get with it. The bracket is perfect to secure it in place for quick release. I highly recommend. An amazing lock, sturdy, and the bracket to secure it is good too for quick easy release. Love the extra 1.8m cable to secure front wheel. The QR code to register key number in cazse you lose a key is good for piece of mind. Common sense applies if buying a lock for a really expensive bike, but this is great for my Hybrid Trek that is worth under $800. A good basic lock for everyday cycling.
