An excellent way to learn Android development
This was the first book I used to learn how to program for Android, back when Java was the main language. It's now 8 years later with lots of Android development under my belt, and I've had the chance to read this new edition preparing for teaching others Android. It's still great: the staging of what to teach when is well chosen. The introduction to coroutines and Compose are particularly thoughtful -- enough to be able to use them and have a solid introduction to them, but short of overwhelming details. I highly recommend this!

Save Your Money
This book is useless. You will spend a great deal of time trying to resolve Gradle build errors than you will learning Android development using Kotlin. As a reference, it may be useful. On the other hand one can use the online Android documentation.

Great book if you want to learn by doing
Before I got this book I tried head first android and let me just tell you this is way better for anyone who already knows how to program and does not want to be spoon fed all the answers. The book just gets right into it and you are not reading the 4th different way of explaining activity_main.xml and what it is. you are learning by doing from the beginning. Great book if you just want to get coding and building as fast as possible.

Llevo bastante tiempo en desarrollo de aplicaciones Android, pero deje de mantener una actualización constante con las ultimas herramientas con koltin y las nuevas versiones de Android. Entonces inicie con KOTLIN de BIG NERD RANCH y ahora ANDROID PROGRAMMING., al estar estudiando y siguiendo el libro con los ejemplos.... lo encuentro muy amigable y completo. La verdad encuentro lo q busque en el libro... aunque al tener ya algo de experiencia a veces encuentro algunos temas redundantes, pero siempre con algo nuevo. LO RECOMIENDO AMPLIAMENTE PARA DEVS JR Y ESOS SENIOR QUE BUSCAN SEGUIR ACTUALIZANDO CON BUENAS PRACTICAS Y CONTENIDO DE CALIDAD.

Aunque actualizar un libro de informática es complejo y muchos prefieren las guías de sitio de desarrolladores, estos suelen ser un poco caóticos y desordenados. Este libro lo toca casi todo, dando ayudas para profundizar. Inicialmente los diseños los hace con XML pero está actualizado para dedicarle un extensa introducción a Compose. Está organizado en proyectos, interesante para autoaprendizaje pero no tanto para tener material de apuntes. Se trata de la 5a edición.
