Rode AI-Micro Dual Channel Audio Interface (Model Number :AI Micro)

I am a karaoke singer. I was looking for a portable sound card to record my speaker audio directly to my mobile & Rode AI Micro did it wonderfully for me. Highly recommended.

Buy a TRRS female to Mic male + Phone male splitter and any wired headset with boom mic becomes a studio/broadcast monitor. Specifically, I paired this with JBL Quantum 100s and calls now sound like the other person is standing right in front of me. (The mic on that is industry leading, outdoing 20k INR headsets... no need to compromise on mic for integrated monitoring.)

Updated on 22 March 2023. This device accepts 3.5 mm TS input as well. -- I always fancied the idea of recording two people for my phone-made content with two decent micing. Say for example interview scenario where both the persons have their dedicated mics. This tiny device allows me to do that. It is tiny. It does not require external power, and the output is acceptable (based on my first impressions with Rode Videomic Go2 single mic) I haven't taken it out to real-life scenarios. The only limitation is that the Jack 1 is for stereo output but it records only one channel and signals on the other are very very low. YouTubers have sighted this limitation on a few channels and I think it is more to do with circuitry than a software thing. I am okay with this. I want to use two mono mics with this device to record two persons. An LED indicator would have been better to know the status of the device. For eg green for recording, yellow for peaking, and red for clipping. That is okay. It is still an awesome thing for me to than to carry my Zoom H5 device.

Even with Rode’s proprietary software like Rode Reporter on iOS or iPad OS to record, multitrack recording isn’t working for me on my iPhone 14 Pro or iPad 2022. Plus the mic gain sucks. Most frustrating is the fact Rode software embeds itself deep into your computer and requires a restart. It does allow you to use GarageBand for example to record multi track, but the gain is really low and you’ll have boost in post. One of the best uses I’ve found is that it’s a very compact alternative to interfaces like Focusrite or Rode’s own interface for xlr mics. Instead if you have good lavalier mic (say Boya) then you’re good to go. So if you have two lavalier mics, then the AI Micro allows you to use GatageBand or its own proprietary Rode Connect on the laptop to record interviews— like for podcasts— with separate voice tracks of high quality. If they offer multi track on the phone or iPad with better gain, it would be a huge improvement. Some reviewers say it does, but I couldn’t do it on my phone and tablet.

Like How am I supposed to use this product if this product simply just DOES NOT WORK...

Pricey but excellent sound quality. It's versatile and can be used with IOS and Android phones and PC/MAC. Pocket solution for getting high-end audio.

Good product

I wanted a way to easily record the full stereo output of Ableton Live to my phone. I've tried several methods, all with varying levels of success, but this thing does the trick phenomenally. I've always wanted just a hardware connection for that sort of thing to omit the headache of software audio routing (as I'm on Windows and with ASIO drivers setting everything up can be a pain. Voicemeeter Banana can only get you so far lol). The one thing I wish I'd realized before purchasing this was that it has to option to send a stereo signal via one 3.5mm jack as opposed to making 2 mono signals stereo (which you can also do). I bought a stereo to mono splitter cable for this thing, but I didn't even need it! All I needed was a regular 3.5mm audio cable and I was all set. My only real complaint is that as far as I can tell the direct monitoring feature is only in mono, so if I want to listen to a full stereo mix in real time (say, for example, like monitoring my mix for singing and piano playing on a TikTok live) I have to have a separate output for my headphones. The problem that is created there is that now I can't actively listen for clipping on the Røde input, which makes precisely setting the gain a little hairy at times. The fact that it plugs into the USB C port on my phone also means that I can't charge my phone while I'm using this unit, which is a little unfortunate. I could probably use a splitter dongle to get around that, but I'm not entirely certain that doing so wouldn't damage either the product or my phone. Technology is expensive enough without the potential risk of accidentally frying your favorite toys, lol. All in all, this thing is absolutely amazing. It's all I wanted and more, and my only gripes with it are nitpicky and not unexpected. This product makes setup and capturing a breeze; it's a total game changer!

I bought this unit to test recording audio with my iPhone during live performances , linked directly with a mixing console of the artists (or myself). I did some tests directly on reception of the unit and all installations and testing worked easily and smoothly.
