Mushroom Popcorn Kernels - Just Poppin Brand

I have been wanting to buy mushroom popcorn for the longest time and finally bought this, an air popper, Flavacol and a can of coconut oil spray.It is recommended that this popcorn be made in an air popper so I'm not going to even bother trying it on stove top or microwave. It's a little pricey so I'm going to use their preferred method.Just about every single kernel was cartoonishly beautiful! The flavor alone is great, it has a nice chew - a thick ball of popped popcorn has a much better chew than a piece of popcorn that's been popped like a peeled banana. There's more substance to the mushroom popcorn and we found ourselves NOT plowing through the bowls mindlessly.We spray the fresh popped popcorn with coconut oil and sprinkle with Flavacol from a salt shaker. Then toss in a bowl. The hard popcorn skins tend to flake off here and stick to the oil that the bowl is now coated in which is great. We then drizzle a little unsalted butter on top and toss again. Absolutely the BEST popcorn we have ever had.Will be making popcorn balls using rice krispies squares recipe, using the popcorn in place of rice krispies... That's gonna be a party!Will order again, and soon. We went through the bag in almost 2 weeks. Wish it was a little cheaper, but you do get SO much square footage out of this stuff I should probably not complain about the price.

There's nothing like family movie night at our house! And in the summer it's great to have the extra time to spend together relaxing and letting the kids stay up late for their favorite movies! The kids start setting up pillows and the little ones grab their stuffed animals and if we're lucky enough no one is fighting over who sits where...I sneak off into the kitchen, the kids press play and I pull out the shallow stainless steel pot aka the popcorn pot! I heat up a few tablespoons of coconut oil on med/high and place 2 or 3 kernels in the pot and close the lid. After a minute or two I hear POP! POP! and I know that's my queue to add in the rest of the unpopped kernels. Just enough to line the bottom of the pot, about 3/4 cup. I close the lid back up in agitate the pan and the kernels start popping like crazy.Before I know it little foot steps are creeping into the kitchen. I turn off the heat and empty the massive popped kernels into a huge bowl. These are no ordinary kernels! These are HUGE! These are the biggest kernels I have ever popped for movie night and it does not go unnoticed!I start topping the popped corn with our favorite Now Foods Nutritional Yeast Flakes, 10-Ounce or nooch, garlic powder, salt and black pepper. I fill the kids favorite cups and even grab a little for myself.There is a new star of movie night! These Mushroom popcorn kernels! And we are not going back to the old brand!!

All were big round balls just as promised. None of the mixed stuff like I see in reviews for other products. As some others stated, there are a ton of hulls. Kernels are just like any other, but I guess they stay attached more than regular popcorn where most flake off. I had to replace my air popper and the new one kind of spins the air out fins at the bottom instead of straight up. Those last few stay in there since not enough pressure to push them up. I will try some in my microwave bowls this weekend to see how it is there.

This is visually beautiful popcorn. Plump, round, huge! Great instructions. Thank you. Popping the corn? You get virtually none of the smell of popcorn that you love. The popped kernels? They are tough. Chewy tough. Seriously, this is really tough popcorn. Not particularly pleasant, but I can see where this variety would be a great vehicle for crunchy coatings. Lots of coating to disguise the lack of flavor and poor texture. Speaking of texture? Let's address the hulls. About 3 x the amount of hulls I have ever experienced with any brand or type of popcorn. In fact, after brushing and flossing, I was still picking hulls out of my teeth hours later. So yeah. I don't think I'll be repeating this purchase as I prefer my popcorn with fewer hulls, lest chewiness, with aroma and with actual flavor. Still might think about it if I am making kettle corn. Shows to go you: Looks aren't everything.

I wanted to like this because I like the big round puffs of popped corn that this produces but the hulls are just too much and distracting for me to give a better overall rating. Everything else about this product is fine, the packaging is great, instructions are very good, and it is a high quality corn. The hulls get stuck in my throat and teeth and just seem to be everywhere.

I wanted to make kettle corn so did a little research here on Amazon. found the whirly pop and then found this corn.I finally got around to making a batch. It was easy and the results were excellent. Large, fluffily pieces of popcorn (and yes there were some hulls and a few unpopped kernels) lightly sweetened and once it cooled off, so crunchy and tasty hubby pretty much ate the entire batch!Easy peasy recipe I found on the net ... I put ¼ cup coconut oil in the whirly-pop, set the burner to medium, waited for the test kernel to pop then added in the popcorn and ¼ cup white sugar. Next time I'll try brown sugar. Stir until it's all popped, dump into a bowl (careful not to burn yourself!), let cool and enjoy!Looking forward to trying their caramel glaze and I did order the sifter bowl which is supposed to get rid of the unpopped kernels and hulls.
