Nontoxic (don't breathe it in) and WORKS
This stuff really works! HARRIS Diatomaceous Earth is super easy to use—so easy, in fact, that my 3-year-old climbed up on some boxes, opened it herself, and started sprinkling it on the ground like it was chalk art in a bottle (thankfully not on herself!). That just goes to show how user-friendly and mess-free it is. I applied it near our basement entrance, where we were seeing several ants a day creeping inside. After using it regularly—about once a week, the number dropped dramatically. From finding 10+ ants a day to just a couple a day in 2 weeks, and then eventually none at all after about a month. It made a huge difference. I also used it while in Hawaii, where the cockroach situation can be intense. The cockroach population definitely went down after use in the condo, and one morning I found several large dead cockroaches suddenly in a pot of water—something that had been sitting out for weeks with no activity before. Clearly, they were drying out and desperately searching for moisture. Pros: 1) Easy to apply and non-toxic 2) Very effective against ants and cockroaches 3) Can be used both indoors and outdoors - be careful if indoors Cons: 1) Requires reapplication for best results if it rains or gets windy 2) Careful when applying if windy - DANGEROUS to inhale or get in eyes, otherwise non-toxic Overall, it’s an affordable, effective, and safe pest control option that I’ll continue to keep on hand. Highly recommend.

This works and is non toxic.
This works. I have a Hibiscus tree that I put outside during the warm months and some gnats got in the soil. I applied the DE over a course of three days, my soil was too wet. I saw fewer and fewer gnats. After 6-7 days the gnats were gone. Be patient it doesn’t work instantly. I ended up with a thin layer of DE on the top and I just mixed it in the soil one I stoped seeing the gnats.

Good flea treatment and good size
Bought this for my daughter to use on her cat for fleas. She has done a single treatment and has noticed a significant reduction in fleas. The bottle and nozzle make application easy and the amount in the bottle will allow it to last for a long time for a single cat. My daughter says there was no real odor and the bottle was well sealed so no leaks. I think this is a good alternative (or at least an addition to) other quality flea treatments.

Great for pest control
A little bit goes a long way. So for me this size is great. My vegetable plants start off great but eventually the heat causes them stress and the insect problem begins. A little powdering of this does the trick and it's food grade so no worry of toxic insecticide. There are feral cats in my yard and I use this lightly in areas where they sleep to help with fleas. I used it frequently when I had chickens. Always food grade for animal safety. When applying, it's the fine dust that does best and sometimes this is hard to achieve. If you put too much the insects will just avoid walking through it. It must be reapplied after rain or weather. This size is not likely the best bang for your buck if you need large areas treated for insects. The nozzle is not ideal for dusting but then I haven't found any that work with diatomaceous earth. It often comes out in a stream. A household sifter is probably the most effective for just a fine dust. Remember to mask or be cautious. Even though it doesn't smell the little particles can irritate your lungs and your pets lungs. The pets licking after you dust them lightly is a very good reason for food grade. (There are reports of feeding this, always food grade, in measured amounts to your flock or pets to control internal parasites. I definitely have no experience with this but it is worth exploring.)

It works to keeps the bugs away
Had an issue with cockroaches when a previous roommate did not properly store their pets' food away and basically left the bags of food open in the garage. Unfortunately, when we started to see cockroaches near the garage it was already too late. The house was infested, bombing it was a temporary fix, but the cockroaches always came back after a few months. Preparing the house for fumigation was time-consuming due to the number of people and pets living here, and hiring a professional exterminator is too expensive for us. We researched more natural ways to keep the infestation at bay and found diatomaceous earth. It's food-grade, so if this was accidentally ingested it would be ok. You do have to be very careful though, because this powder is so fine and if we breathe it in, it is very harmful to our lungs and respiratory tract. We masked up and dusted the powder very lightly on areas where we knew the cockroaches appeared and where not a lot of people or pets would access often or for long. We sprayed a light mist of water to keep the powder from flying up into the air just in case. It took some time for the powder to show its effectiveness as we still were seeing cockroaches, but by the end of the month, we all suddenly thought that there weren't a lot of cockroach sightings as in previous months. Additionally, it did help with the large ant hills near our front door. We originally bought this as it was small and affordable to try, definitely a fraction of the cost compared to fumigating or calling a professional. If it didn't work we would at least be able to use this in our garden and say it was worth a try. Since it works, we will be buying more diatomaceous earth. Edit: It has been over half a year since we got this. Realistically, I will say this did not eliminate all cockroaches, unfortunately. However, it has been effective for our infestation with some patience and time. We were using this product almost daily for almost 3 months until it got to the point where we were only seeing a sighting of a cockroach once a month. After that, we would put more focus on the area where the cockroach was seen and use this product there. I hated to live in the house due to how disgusted I was with it, but now it is very livable. For those in dire situations with no possibility for a more permanent solution, this is still a highly effective temporary solution.

Difficult to apply, but hopeful it is working
This was a reasonably priced version of this product. I have used similar products before with good results. The fact that it is a non toxic way to get rid of roaches or other insects is ideal. I needed to apply some in our master bathroom, specifically in some cracking tile grout where I noticed some baby roaches were hiding (ewwwwwwwwww) and didn't want to use toxic substances in there. I had manually killed a few babies over the course of a few weeks prior that I horrifyingly witnessed venturing out of that crack. I really DID NOT WANT them to grow into adults as I have an unnatural fear of roaches since childhood. I have no idea how many babies are in one roach egg... and I don't want to know. I found this product very difficult to apply, but it is probably just the nature of powders. I wore a mask so I wouldn't breathe it in because even though it is not toxic, any powders going into your lungs is a bad idea. I found that I either couldn't be sure it was coming out at all OR I had an excessive amount pour out. Perhaps a better solution is to pour a bit into a small cup/plate and use a small paint brush or an old, spare make up brush to apply. I ended up dumping large amounts out, wasting quite a bit of product, and smearing it into the places needed with my hands (less than ideal). I tried to get it in all the cracked areas and then went around the bathroom floor boards and behind the toilet for good measure. I also put some in the corners of my Master bedroom and along 2 sets of sliders in two rooms, where there are definitely some entry points. The heavy rains in the summer drive insects to seek dry shelter in our home we notice. Although we do get monthly outdoor pest control service on the exterior of the home, it isn't always enough. It is hard for me to know for sure if this product has worked because I haven't found any dead insects, but I also have not seen any live ones since-- a positive in my book. The babies may have died behind the tile, and while not ideal, is better than them being alive and growing into big nasty roaches. I prefer to pretend they walked in the powder and went outside in the yard to die. I know we do still need to seal up the shower cracks, but it will take a lot of time and money to do it right. Curse the previous owners who used thick sandy grout lines! I will be coming up with an ad hoc solution in the meantime. If you have never tried a product like this before, I recommend giving it a shot. I will update my review if I see roaches rolling around in this powder and laughing at me in defiance. Until then, I am assuming it is working as intended.

Solid Bug Defense – Worth It With the Applicator
I was getting mystery bites at night and couldn’t figure out why. Talked it over with my best friend Chad (okay, technically ChatGPT), and he pointed me toward diatomaceous earth. Between a deep clean and sprinkling this around my bed and furniture, the bites stopped. Huge relief. You don’t actually need much at a time, so this half bag is basically a lifetime supply. Shipping was fast, the product is clean and easy to handle, and I’ve had zero issues since using it. The applicator is 100% worth the extra spend — it makes placing the powder exactly where you want it way less messy. Without it, you’d be tempted to just dump and hope for the best. Bottom line: does what it says, lasts forever, and has me sleeping bite-free.
