Q: The black piece that comes inside the case, is that to be used with the iPad? or is that just for shipping purposes?

I threw it away. I think it's just to keep the shape during shipping. My iPad wouldn't have fit if it was still inside.

It's very easy to install it,2 steps: 1.remove the black plastic piece inside the case. 2.put your ipad 10.2/10.5 into the case. it also comes with a shoulder strap ,you can also easy install it if you need.
