Are the sides solid ? Can a cat crawl through the sides ?

The gate mounts outside of the opening, so the sides shouldn't be an issue, but the bottom "gaps" because it cannot be pulled taught enough and because it doesn't touch the ground. The cat would likely be able to "shimmy" under the bottom. That's what my small pup does.

I want to do an inside mount with the retractable gate between two posts that are 3" wide. Are the mounting brackets narrow enough?

Just measured it. The width of the mounting bracket on the main retractable side is 2.5”. The width of the mounting bracket on the other side is 2”.
