Will purchase again
I purchased this in 2019 and just now needing to replace! It has worked well for being on carpet under my son’s desk. He spends lots of time there playing video games and moving back and forth! This may did crack and break in the center where he moves the most, desk chair has wheels! I am reordering because this may seemed to last longer than any others in this process range has lasted

Groovy.
At first, it’s very stiff and needs a bit of effort to roll out. Let it relax 48 hrs and put weight on it and it will relax enough to use. Once in use, it works as designed.

Packaged rolled up
This is packaged rolled up. It takes a little effort to unroll, but it does flatten mostly after a few days. It's more flexible than other chair mats I have purchased, which over a few years have cracked. Time will tell if this holds up to use over carpet. It retains divots where your chair wheels are, and keeps it from rolling smoothly.

Decent Protection, but Too Much Movement — HON Chair Mat Needs Improvement
⭐️ Overall Rating: 3 out of 5 Stars The HON Office Chair Mat for Carpeted Floors is a decent option for basic floor protection, but it falls short when it comes to stability and durability. It looks well-made at first glance and does a good job of shielding the carpet from wear, but in daily use, it struggles to stay in place and tends to dent under the chair’s weight. For a product designed to make rolling easier, it ends up doing the opposite. ⸻ 🪟 Design & Appearance The mat itself has a clean, professional look — clear with a light texture that blends in nicely with most office setups. It’s designed for use on carpeted surfaces and includes small cleats or grips underneath that are meant to keep it from sliding. The material feels sturdy enough when unboxed, with a slightly flexible but thick plastic composition that promises long-term use. Unfortunately, while the design looks promising, the performance doesn’t quite live up to expectations once it’s in use. ⸻ 🪑 Performance & Stability Here’s where the issues show up. Despite being marketed for carpeted floors, the mat doesn’t stay put very well. Even on low-pile carpet, it tends to shift gradually throughout the day as the chair moves back and forth. It requires frequent repositioning, which becomes frustrating over time — especially if your workspace demands constant movement. The chair also sinks into the mat, leaving deep dents in the spots where the wheels sit most often. Those indentations make it difficult to roll smoothly or adjust positions without extra effort. Instead of gliding across the surface, the chair often catches or feels “stuck” in one of the depressions. For a mat at this price point, you’d expect better resilience — something that bounces back after use. Unfortunately, this one loses its shape too easily. ⸻ 💪 Protection & Functionality To its credit, the HON mat does protect the carpet underneath. It effectively prevents wheel tracks and fabric wear, which is the main reason to use a mat in the first place. If your chair remains mostly stationary during the day, the mat will do its job adequately. However, for anyone who moves frequently, swivels often, or needs a smooth roll for reaching different parts of a workspace, the dents and shifting can quickly become a nuisance. ⸻ ⚙️ Material Quality The material feels like standard PVC or vinyl — moderately thick and flexible enough to unroll easily. While it’s sturdy enough to resist cracking, it’s not rigid enough to prevent indentations. The cleats underneath are small and not very effective at anchoring the mat into the carpet fibers, which likely contributes to the sliding issue. If the material were a bit firmer or designed with a better anti-slip backing, it could make a noticeable difference in performance. ⸻ 🧾 Pros & Cons Pros: • Protects carpet from chair wheel damage • Clear design blends well with most office spaces • Reasonable thickness for basic use • Easy to clean and wipe down Cons: • Slides around easily on carpet • Dents deeply where chair wheels sit • Difficult to roll smoothly • Requires frequent repositioning ⸻ ✅ Final Thoughts The HON Office Chair Mat for Carpet earns 3 stars because it performs adequately in protecting flooring but fails in comfort and mobility — two crucial factors for an office chair mat. It’s fine for light use or a mostly stationary chair, but for anyone who moves frequently throughout the workday, the constant dents and shifting will be frustrating. With a few design improvements — firmer material, better grip on the underside, and more resilience to wheel pressure — this could be an excellent mat. For now, it’s simply average: good for protecting your carpet, but not great for productivity or ease of movement.

It is the silent companion of endurance . . .
How frail and restless is the life of toil — this daily dance of the chair across the dim plains of the carpet, its wheels catching like thoughts upon regrets! Yet upon that weary battlefield now lies a savior: the HON Office Chair Mat, a clear, glimmering shield of civility stretched beneath the weight of industry. Its surface — smooth as glass, yet resolute as the frozen tarns of winter — invites motion untroubled by friction or fate. Beneath the chair’s ceaseless revolutions, the mat remains steadfast, uncomplaining; its transparency reveals the woven darkness of the carpet below, yet never succumbs to it. It is the silent companion of endurance — the mute witness to midnight labors and unspoken frustrations. The extended lip, reaching out like a hesitant hand beneath the desk’s shadow, protects that hidden expanse where the human form bends most humbly to its work. One might call it a gesture of grace — the mat offering itself to guard even the unseen, the disregarded corners of existence. In its unassuming rectangle lies a strange poetry: the triumph of order over wear, of clarity over the slow erosion of tread and time. It speaks not loudly, but with the quiet dignity of something that serves, that suffers, and that endures. Thus the HON Chair Mat, plain though it seems, becomes a symbol of steadfastness — the invisible foundation upon which weary dreamers roll toward their endless tasks.

Does what it says, but just barely.
While this mat will likely protect your carpet in the long-run, the other aspects of this made me wish I would have gone with another brand. First, as most mentioned, getting this to lay flat is hard. The packaging size makes it so the mat needs to be tightly rolled, which is further exacerbated by the cold weather. I have had 50lb weights on it for two days, and it is still curling. Im sure this will go away after some time, but holy cow is this unnecessarily annoying. However, for me, the biggest con of this product is the size. While it boasts about having an extended size for your feet, do you really need protection from the chair there? The mat is EXTREMELY small for what I would think a product like this should be. If you literally never roll around in your chair, this will be okay, but otherwise, any small roll left/right/back will have your chair rolling off the mat onto the carpet, which then snags on the mat because its likely not fully flat as previously discussed. Lastly, a minor issue is that this mat just seems like very thin plastic. After sitting in the same position for ~30 seconds, there are massive divots in the mat and my carpet (which is low pile, so it shouldnt imprint into as much as it is) which make moving harder. All in all, if this product was $20 or $30 I would just be upset and move on. However, for approx $50, these issues should not be happening. I will be asking for a refund on this product and finding a bigger, sturdier one elsewhere.

It takes a while for it to lay flat.

The biggest problem I found when shopping around for chair mats is that they all ship rolled up and people have issues flattening them out because they are so rigid. This item shipped to me already flattened which completely solved that problem. The only thing I do not like about the mat, is that I find it is not very grippy underneath so it slides around quite a bit on my hard floors.

Al Principio se queda muy enrollado y deforme… le puse cosas encima para que se aplanara más y medio sirvió, supongo que con el tiempo. Buen producto. Buen grosso y calidad. Es para alfombra porque tiene los picos abajo para fijarse.

It was shipped flat, not rolled up in a tight roll. So I could take it out of the flat box and put it right into use. It is thick enough to protect my hardwood floor from the rockers on my chair. It doesn't slide but if it did, I'd just tape it into place. It's almost too big but I simply put part of it under my other chair next to it. Wish I had bought two of them.
