I buy my dog food in 15 lb bags. Does anyone know if the Gamma2 Vault 15 will actually hold 15 lbs of dog food?

It honestly depends on the size of the pellets itself. If you have the smaller ones, 15lbs will fit with no problem. A medium size pellet will fit as well. However if you have large pellets it will not. I have small/medium dogs so their food isn't large. I don't have any problems fitting a 15 lb bag in my 15 lb vault

Do you store pet food in its original bag inside this container? Or just pour it out into the Vittles Vault?

If you store the food in its original bag you don’t have to wash the inside of container. I was emptying the bag directly and washing container every 4 or 5 bags. After about 4 years the food starts to go stale by the 3rd week. Lesson learned… If you don’t use the bag, ALWAYS wash container after each use.

Can anyone tell me the actual usable internal volume of the 15lb container, preferably in gallons? I'm looking to store brewing grain so "weight of pet food it holds" doesn't tell me much.

Let's end the missinformation right now. The 50lb container measured 14"x14"x about 17" high usable (accounting for the taper). So that's 14.4 gals volume. I measured my dry, unmilled grain at 0.86 qts per lb. So this "50#" bin should hold almost 67 lbs on of UNMILLED grain. That's probably more like 50 lbs milled (maybe as little as 45 lbs). I have put 55 lbs unmilled in with room to spare. I also weighed my fairly small kibble Purina Pro dog food, it is about 70% the density of my grain, so this bin will prob hold about 47 lbs of my dog food. I used a 2 cup measuring cup to get the density, so figure I could be low by 10% or so on the weight capacity, so my numbers should be conservative. Why the mfgr insists on specing these bin in lbs, when they have no clue as to the density of the dog food or whatever else people want to use these for, rather than specing actual VOLUME, is a mystery! And contrary to some of the comments here, there is no formula for comverting pounds to volume, unless you have the density of what's going on. Most people mistakenly assume the density of water.
