Best headlight I've ever owned
I have an older version of this light that I love, but I like this one even better. USB-C charging, brighter light, and flood and spot instead of just a general use spot beam are all nice improvements, but the red light may be the biggest one. In the older version the red light mode was almost unusable because it was too dim. This one is actually bright enough for you to move around and do basic tasks with. It's nice for hunting or anytime you need just a little light but don't want to ruin your night vision. I guess I shouldn't understate how great the flood settings are. It is fantastic for any work, or general close up lighting needs. Very bright uniform light, with a very natural color temperature. The switch is large and easy to press, but won't get pressed accidentally. You hold to turn on spot mode, and then click through settings on it, then hold to turn off. You double tap to turn on the red and flood mode, and click through its settings the same way. You hold again to turn off. I was recently trying to help a buddy run a 100K by pacing him at night, and used the light on a lower flood setting all night long. The battery life is pretty insane, possibly because of the 5000mAh 21700 battery with protection circuit that is included with the light. I was glad to have it. As a light junkie, I highly recommend these lights, and look forward to seeing what they make in the future. If something happened to this light I would order another one immediately. I use it all the time, and absolutely recommend it.

Eureka! Finally a great headlight.
After owning several (less quality) headlights using AAA or CR 123 batteries which lacked brightness or battery longevity , I finally found one that I absolutely love and its super bright!!!! Recharges quickly and lasts hours. Did I say it was super bright!!! A little heavier than others but that's because of the aluminum body and heavy 5000ma battery.

Outstanding headlamp - Buy it.
1600 lumen capability (until internal the internal overheating protection kicks in and dims its light output somewhat, which all quality headlamps do), four brightness levels on spotlight, 2 neutral brightness levels on floodlight, bright red lamp to preserve night-adapted vision, and equally bright SOS capability. Excellent waterproofing leads to IP68 certification.Outstanding design and construction materials - and like all Fenix items, unless you intentionally set out to destroy the product, it's essentially bullet-proof.Don't let the 100 hour runtime mislead you in comparison to the Fenix HM70R's nearest competitor in the Fenix family - the HM 60R and its 300 hour runtime... and that's a high quality headlamp too.The HM70R doesn't have the HM60s five lumen floodlight setting, and given the amount of light a five lumen floodlight casts, that setting seems almost pointless. When you compare apples to apples, in low lumen output the HM70R has a 100 hour 30 lumen output in spotlight mode versus the HM60's 54 hour 30 lumen output... and the HM70R has a 48 hour, 70 lumen output in medium floodlight mode versus the HM60R's 24 hour, 70 lumen output in medium floodlight mode. When you get to short duration, higher intensity light output requirement, the HM70R puts out 500 lumens for six hours versus 350 lumens for eight hours. I'll take the higher light output for the shorter duration every time. The only downside of the HM70R, and only a small number will even notice this, is that with all that capability comes a slight increase in weight... 7.27 oz with battery. That's not a deal-breaker, by any means, especially with the over the head strap that comes included which serves to distribute weight very well, but for many the "sweet-spot" for a headlamp is about 5.5 oz or less. While I don't notice that 1.7 oz difference, some "constant complainers' might. The Fenix HM70R is a campers dream headlamp. It won't replace my Fenix HM50R V2.0 Rechargeable Headlamp for use around the house while doing outdoor chores after sundown in the Phoenix summer heat, or for my astrophotography hobby with it's red light capability, or for intricate work of any kind requiring excellent lighting, etc., etc., etc... but the Fenix HM70 can't be beaten for a camping do-it-all headlamp with power to go and go and go.

Buy it
My one and only amazaon review cause this is worth every penny. The brightest setting is brighter than my duck hunting buddies' hand held spot lights. I can run a jon boat through the woods with just this light. On the lower setting the battery life is really good. I charge it in my truck console area and face the indicator light towards me while im driving. As soon as that light turns green you need to unplug it. Battery life is great u dont want to screw it up.This thing has saved my life more than once. Ive dropped it completely under water, in the mud, used it in downpours etc. Thing is amazing and all my friends got this one or other versions of the same brand. If you work outside or hunt or do any kind of dangerous stuff outside you need to buy this bad boy

Great battery life
The 21700 battery lasts a lot longer than the 18650 batteries do. I use lights outdoors quite a bit at night. Fenix makes a good light. I've used their lights for decades. I've owned and used most of the premium brands. Fenix is as good or better than all of them.

Extremely bright!
The light is extremely bright and well built but at max level it can burn you badly. I tried to cover the light to shield a person's eyes and my glove started smoking. It will scald you if you're not being careful! Other than the scalding issue it's an amazing light! Battery lasts a long time.

Long battery life
The button combination can take a little getting used to but overall great product very useful for working nights. Battery lasts all night on medium.

Great for larger area lighting
Nice bright wide beam even in second setting. Seems to spot light the center area with a lower but good coverage in the outside area so perfect to see a large area which is safer and quicker to see anything
