is the output DC or pulsed DC? i.e. a single polarity?

The output is fairly clean DC. It has a few mV of noise which is load dependent. In my case I am using this in a supply for a measuring microphone. The mic needs super clean 120V at a couple mA, and super clean 200 V at no current. To clean the output up I used a Sziklai pair capacitance multiplier to get the noise down into the uV range plus an RC filter for the polarizing voltage.

I was not able to find a schematic for the power supply circuit. Would have to reverse engineer the board to get the circuit.

What is required for it to work?

A 12 volt DC 1A wall wart powers this just fine.

Exactly what type of transformer is needed for the high voltage dc-dc boost power supply converter module?

All you need as a "wall wart" that plugs into the AC wall socket and delivers 12 volts DC. Cut and remove the coax plug from the wall wart's cord. Check polarity and connect the + lead with to red and - to black. A wall wart rated at 1 amp is enough as long as your HV load does not draw more than about 30mA. By the way, 30mA is about the limit for what this board can do before the inductor's core saturates and the efficiency goes way down resulting in overheating.

Don’t short it! But nice and compact.

Good unit. Using for NIXIE project. Tested. Bought two. Both work fine. Remember, the voltage at the output is high. Even though the current is low you can still get a bite! Use caution especially if you have a pacemaker! Things get really exciting then! LOL

will not run on 8 v

this will not run on 8 volts , runs fine on 12 , listing is misleading . forget even 8.2 !It would be much more valuable to all obviously if it really ran even to 4.5-5 v—- data in listing is wrong . PIA

Pure junk.

I don't know if the circuit on the other flavors of this board is better, but the "black" board version is garbage.I'm 0-2 on these things. I've built linear power supplies in the past. There is nothing special about them. But they're big, heavy, and inefficient, so I tried to take a short cut. It turned out to be a waste of time.The first one, 12V input, 11V output. Adjustment did nothing.Exchanged for a 2nd.Exact same thing - 12V in, 11V out, no adjustment.And oh, to the person who designed this board, would it have killed you to add a 2nd mounting hole?

Works great. Needs a heatsink.

Works great. Produces the advertised voltages and is very stable. Only issue is if you plan to enclose this at all or maybe run it for extended periods of time, get a heatsink for the IRF740. It will get very hot!! Other than that, highly recommended!!
