Beautiful book
Written by Jean-Claude Elaina, the nose behind Terre d'Hermes and most of the Hermes line of fragrances up until about 10 years ago. He is a true master of his art, and this book details his experiences with a number of botanical ingredients used in perfume formulations. The writing is very well done, and the translation from the French is artful and captures the beauty of his words and intent. The best part of the book, though, are the pages of artwork between each fragrance. They are works of art in their own right. I purchased two copies of this book so that I could cut the artwork out of one and put them up in my house. They are absolutely spectacular. Even if you have no interest in perfume, this book is a work of art and belongs in any home or collection.

Appealing book
Perfumed botany. A phrase that conjures up the magic, beauty, elegance and wonders of flowers that smell heavenly! That’s partly why this book appealed to me, and I was not disappointed.I enjoyed the history and stories, some from the author’s own experiences, and just getting to know about the plants and the perfumes they make possible. They made me want to visit the places with fields and fields of colours and scents. The art is not too bad, but I would have loved to see more traditional floral arts, preferably in watercolor. This is my honest review based on the copy I received from the publisher.
