I am using this for my back pain. It holds its shape around the portion of my back that I need and it stays cool for a long time.

My wife has sciatica and has been using a long gel pack for many years to provide pain relief. When the pack started to ooze gel, we bought the Koo-Care Waist & Lower Back Gel Ice Pack & Wrap. She finds that the velcro belt allows her to position the gel pack over the small of her back where the pain relief is needed, and prevents the pack from compacting top to bottom. The old pack, which she wrapped in a tea towel, would slide down and get folded in upon itself. Since a cold gel pack should not be put directly on the skin, there is still a need for the tea towel to be draped over the top of the gel pack if the blue side of the gel pack cover is facing outward, as illustrated in the pictures. The other side of the gel pack cover is a thin black mesh which we think does not provide enough separation between the gel pack and the skin. Overall the gel pack and it's cover appear to be well made. Since it is only a week old, we cannot comment on it's longevity.

[for]Anyone who experiences lower-back muscle pain, I recommend this cold pack! The strap holds it in place so you can move about w it right where you need it. And here’s a huge plus... test this to make sure it’s right for you(I’m not a doctor and so this is just a personal recommendation based on my experience). Although they don’t recommend leaving the pack in place for “very long”, I sleep on it located on my lower back. This cold seems to break the “pain cycle”(muscle pain/tension- increased muscle pain/increasing tension and so on...but the relief seems to come from “freezing” the pain. So the cycle stops, WITHOUT PAIN PILLS! When I wake up, the pain is gone and I’m moving freely. Some might object to the cold. But I’m telling you!, the cold sensation is soon gone(perhaps because of the “freezing”... I don’t know. But I do know the cold feeling subsided from the cold pack and in the morning, the pain of (a) tensed lower-back muscle(s) is GONE without pain pills. Check w your physical therapist and or physician first so you won’t be injured or (if in your case) what I’m describing is wrong of dangerous. But in my case it works. I’ve been doing this(what I’ve described) for years without any physical liabilities. If you get cleared or you test it and it doesn’t seem to hurt, well, try it! Being free of lower back (pain free w/o pills!) is a huge plus. AGAIN, CHECK W YOUR DOCTOR FOR THE ADVISABILITY OF DOING WHAT IM DESCRIBING- in your case it might be totally wrong! If not- try it. I’ll be wearing my pack tonight because I have some pain today. Tomorrow morning, it will be gone. Maybe, it’ll work for you also.

I have a painful sprained knee which my doctor said to wrap with ice pack 3 times a day. After hassling with crushed ice in plastic bags for 2 days, I found this on Amazon, ordered it before sunrise, had it at my door by suppertime. It works great, stays soft and shapeable after freezing, which only takes about 2 hours. It is secured with a sturdy, wide velcro strap that is long enough to go around my 42" waist when I tried it on my lower back. I haven't tried it with heat yet, but the quality of this product gives me confidence it will also work well that way.
