These rivet nut tools are worth there weight in gold.
These rivet nut installers are awesome. I used them on an inner fender to mount my winch switch and they did the job perfectly. They come with a step drill bit which makes the job so easy. They are small in size so they work really well in tight spaces and that’s what I had. Drill the right size hole and install the rivet nut on the tool and a couple of wrenches and tighten it up and then unscrew the tool from the rivet nut and the job is done.

Entire kit works . . . but two big things
Whoever invented rivnuts is a genius because this is exactly what I needed to install 3” caster wheels on bottom of steel frame baby lounger. I didn’t want to buy the big rivnut tool because in tight spaces, I won’t have room to use the tool and so I liked this tool because I could use a drill and can work in tight spaces. I’m sure if I was installing rivnuts a lot, I would get the tool. So this kit does the task. And I REALLY want to give it 5 stars but I had to knock off a star for two reasons: 1) the step drill only goes to 12mm despite the product description picture clearly showing 13mm which is needed for M10 and 3/8-16 size threads which as it turns out is what I need for those aforementioned 3” caster wheels. Thankfully I had a 1/2” drill bit (12.7mm, just shy of the required 13mm needed) that I was able to manipulate by angling the drilling (be careful!) and then using a hammer to pound the rivnut+mandrel in. Not exactly the most professional but it got the job done and you can’t see the non-perfect hole once the rivnut is installed. 2) I have FOUR, yes 4! different sets of ratchet sets, hex wrenches etc + a gazillion Allen wrench combinations and NONE of them was the right size for that big fat 3/8-16 mandrel. Thankfully I eventually found a correct size Allen wrench without having to make a trip to the store or waiting another day for Amazon delivery. Perhaps I don’t have ALL the size tools that others do, but since ALL my other tools fit EVERY other mandrel BUT the 3/8-16 one, maybe a heads up in the description/picture or better yet, use hex head for the bolt instead since that’s a more ubiquitous fitting that people have laying around if they are undertaking this task. So yah, I had to do it manually and my poor thumbs are sore. And no, I didn’t have random 3/8-16 bolts around that I could have substituted out. All in all though, this kit got the job done and I’m happy with it and will put this to good use in future.

Tips I learned
Below are tips I have learned from using this tool. Related to smaller size M4 and below. Installation process: 1. Grip the large nut with a wrench. Hold the wrench to prevent the large nut from rotating. The large nut has a bearing inside to prevent the rivnut from rotating during the tightening process. 2. Thread the rivnut onto the bolt. Get it finger tight. Finger tight will be the starting point for step #3. 3. Use an allen wrench (or equivalent tool) to tighten the bolt 2.0-2.5 full turns (720-900 degrees). 4. Done. Exceeding 2.5 turns will result in: - Bolt breaking - Head stripping - Warped threads from too much upward pressure inside the rivnut. Recommended add-ons: - Extra strong socket head bolts. McMaster item 91290A176 has grade 12.9 steel. Treat the M4 bolts as a consumable item. Need to replace an M4 bolt every 5-10 rivnuts. One can pull the old bolt out of the large nut's bearing fairly easily. - Wiha 71397 hex bit set has excellent tolerances to prevent cam-out. Make sure to have a socket wrench that fits the Wiha bits. The socket wrench will provide enough leverage when tightening the 2.0 - 2.5 turns. Additional info: - I wanted to find an M4 bolt with a hex head (instead of a socket head). A hex head bolt (tightened with a regular socket head driver) could handle the torque much better than a tiny hex insert bit. Unfortunately I couldn't find an M4 hex head bolt with high strength steel. - Do NOT use an impact driver on smaller M4 sizes! Need to hand tighten M4 sizes. I broke so many M4 bolts with an impact driver. - Other reviewers have pictures of broken bolts. This was from tightening past 2.0-2.5 turns. - Using the steps above will work with stainless steel rivnuts. Don't need to get brass, although I'm sure brass is a little more forgiving. - Overall, I am impressed with the tool. The stepper drill bit included in the box was a big help also.

Plan on buying hardened steel bolts to replace the ones supplied in this kit.
Smaller sizes are ok…larger sizes didn’t work. The 3/8” bolt striped out on the second insert. Took an hour to extract the failed insert. To be clear, I believe the mild steel bolt failed. Mild steel Vs. stainless, mild looses every time! Purchased grade 8 bolts to replace all the mild steel bolts —- also, the drill sizes are METRIC while the bolt sizes are imperial. Confusing.

GARBAGE
Extremely poor quality bolts. Broken on first attempt to install rivnut. Bought a real case hardened nut and installed 21 without a hitch. Sad that the products we purchase in good faith are junk.

Used a few times already and worked great without any issues. Well worth the price for when you need a rivet nut tool that works.
