Polymyalgia Rheumatica and Giant Cell Arteritis: a survival guide. 2nd edition. Review: Most informative book on Polymyalgia Rheumatica & Giant Cell Arteritis - Read this several years ago. Excellent book on an illness that is often misdiagnosed as most medical professionals are unfamiliar with it. Very helpful as it is easy to read, written in laymen's terms & offers first hand information from someone who has suffered with, and is quite familiar with this ailment. Information on prednisone, the drug of choice to quell inflammation & offers an alternate way to taper doses (also offers alternatives to using steroids). There is a well organized index which is very helpful if you need to quickly find information. Good book to have if you suspect you or a loved one are exhibiting many of the symptoms discussed in this book. Especially useful if your doctor is at an impasse diagnosing the symptoms that you are presenting with that he/she is observing. Review: Very informative, information I couldn't get anyplace else including my rheumatologist - Excellent book on GCA,

Fantastic guide book
If you think you might have PMR, you should read this book. On credentials alone the author is very qualified to write this. Then you add in the knowledge that she also had PMR you get the personal experience that no physician can give. Hopefully you can stop the PMR before there its progression to GCA.

BEST BOOK FOR PMR
I bought this book once I thought I might have PMR and it has been MORE HELPFUL than any of the doctors that I have seen!! This book is priceless in helping you understand what you should expect and how to deal with having PMR. If I could give this book 10 stars, I would. Easy to read, great reference, and includes everything you need to know to manage your PMR. The best survival guide EVER! THANK YOU for this book!

I'm ten months after diagnosis and about 18 months after first symptoms. This book has helped me understand what is happening to me and how the course of the illness is likely to progress. I feel much better about tapering slowly now and see how normal it is to be different and not to be able to follow the plan of the medics. Also clearer about what to look out for to avoid GCA. Great book. Thank you

If your Rheumatologist has diagnosed you with this awful conditions you MUST read this book. It easily explains the authors journey with this condition and her wonderful intense research into symptoms, conditions, research and medications into your battle with PMR and GCA. I have been diagnosed with PMR after a long run around ( 6 plus months) with a brainless GP (who I no longer have) and trips to the ER. I found a GP who rushed an appointment with my now excellent caring Rheumatologist. This book explains everything and I can't give it enough stars. Again a MUST read for anyone who has PMR/GCA. It's sad that I have not found any support groups in Canada yet, as they have in the UK.

As a Polymialga Rumatica and GCA sufferer, I highly recommend this book. Gave me an insight into the conditions and things the GP never told me about. Put my mind at rest also as now know there are others out there, going through exactly what I am experiencing.

Very informative and helpful - This lady is much to be admired for, virtually all on her own, setting up an information source and support system for victims of this little-known disease throughout the U.K. I wish there was something comparable in Canada; Kate Gilbert needs a follower on this side of the Atlantic to take the reins.
