The smartband that comes with wowwee (initial late august pre-order release version) is not as it was advertised and shown at various conventions. There is a youtube video where a wowwee demonstrator mentions the smartband will have a range of 80 feet. Elsewhere, they also mention that Chip will be aware of the "user" returning home and will be waiting at the door. Or being able to wake you up like an alarm clock. ( [...] ) Sadly the range of the signal is just way too weak to deliver on much. These things are not possible with the current band which has very weak distance, and has a range of 3 meters (10 feet). (source: [...] ).The initially released smart band is so weak that you can cover it with a sleeve, a hand, or put it behind your back and CHIP loses track of the owner. He certainly won't know where you are, if you go around a corner in a room, or close a door. I hope the reason it is always out of stock, is because a more powerful band is on the way.
