First Rough Ryder, First Trapper - very happy
I have been interested in the Rough Rider brand for a while. I am usually a single blade, lock pattern kind of gal, but I have also been wanting a trapper and other style knives. I decided to start with the trapper and really loved the look of this Outdoorsman series trapper from Rough Rider. It is a tobacco bone with stainless blades. Here is what I have observed: -Both blades come very sturdy, sharp, and easy to use. -Neither blade has blade wobble. -Both blades are off-center and lean much toward the show side; however, neither seems to rub the inner liner nor the other blade. -The transitions between bone and pins, bone and acorn, and bone and bolsters are quite smooth with just a couple of areas that you can feel (very lightly). - The bone color is absolutely beautiful. -This is certainly larger and more substantial in weight than any other knife I have and use. This isn’t something I would keep with me on the daily (especially since women have smaller pockets), but I would definitely use this knife for some hard use (due to its durability, price, and quality). -The blades are thick at the tops and narrow to the sharp edge, making them feel very sturdy. - I LOVE that one blade locks, which is the clip point. It looks very sturdily and tightly and I have a lot of confidence in this lock. -The slip joint blade has a strong pull and doesn’t collapse easily. -Each blade is easy to grasp and pull into place. -While this knife came ready to use, it does benefit from a flushing out as mine did have some factory gunk build up in the pivots. This was a quick and easy thing to clear out and was a non-issue. Overall, this is a beautiful knife. It is not perfectly centered, but that does not seem to negatively affect the knife in any way. The bone is smooth and beautifully colored. Each blade is sharp and ready for use right out of the box. I love that this knife comes in a box, which just helps the old-school appeal. I really just love the acorn badge, which is classy and beautiful. I feel that this knife can do some good work and will make a good, useful tool, which is what its intended purpose will be for me, as I carry something much slimmer and lighter as a daily tool. I am so happy to finally have a trapper in my collection, especially one with a bone handle; but, I am even more excited to have one that has a locking blade as that is my preference and what talked me into this knife, in particular. If you are on the fence, go for this! You cannot beat if for quality, beauty, and usefulness.

More than good for the money.
This is a low end knife that was 14 dollars new. That figures in to the 5 stars. I consider a 14 dollar knife an every day carry working knife. So as for the imperfections, they are tiny AND I have seen them on expensive knives. All the rivets are flush except for one that just barely can be felt on my nail. Same with a spot from handle to bolster. The main blade does not spring all the way home but is pushed against friction about a 1/32 of an inch or less. Even so it would not be a pocket carry issue for a work knife as it does not leave anything exposed to catch. Mine will have a sheath that I will buy. Other than that this knife is perfect and I love it. It has a gorgeous finish. Little flaws...just its own personality. I got more than expected. It is 440 stainless and mine was sharp. Update: I love more each day. It holds an edge but Since I keep mine razor sharp I generally sharpen it a few licks at the first daily use. I washed it with 3x Dawn and use some mineral oil. I am using it for food and fruit a lot and carry a small Uncle Henry for most other daily uses. Fits a 9 dollar Case trapper leather sheath and is easy to retrieve skinny side up.UPDTE: I love using the knife. I bought another but one of the tobacco bone handles was delaminating close to a bolster and I could run my nail under it. It also stuck up above the bolster on one side. The rivet seem off center and wasn’t holding it tight. Update: Exchange was easy. Received one with no flaws. Handles a little bit darker shade but acceptable.

Knife is nice but..
The shield fell off right out of the box. I guess you have to glue it yourself?

Not perfect, but very, very good!
This is my first Rough Rider, and I am quite impressed! Fit and finish are very good especially for the price. I immediately want to get more Rough Riders! Pros: beautiful bone covers, pins are cleanly finished and flush, transitions between bolsters to covers are very good, the acorn shield is flush with no big gaps around it, pull tension on the spay blade is just right (but note that i don't like strong pulls because i have weak fingernails), lockup on the clip blade is solid, pivots quite smooth out of the box but got even smoother with a WD40 flush Cons: blades came with a working edge but could be much sharper, this size (4-inches closed) is on the verge of being uncomfortable in pocket, some tiny gaps in the springs This is an excellent, excellent value! Very impressive!

Excellent knife for the money!
Overall great knife! Presentation is beautiful and seems well made. Blade locks up nicely with no play. Both blades were very sharp out of the box. The fit and finish is great and ready for carry. Worth the money and then some. If you're on the fence get it!

A work of art!
Wow, what a pocketknife. A work of art. What a fantastic knife! Gorgeous, tight, perfect fit and finish, no looseness, sharp enough to shave your arm right out of the box. This is the second Rough Rider knife I have purchased, and so far they are all among my favorite knives. I know, Made In China, but can you blame me for wanting to buy a knife of the highest quality at a price that is a third or a sixth of what it should cost? I don't think I have ever seen a better pocket knife than this one, and it's practically free!@#$$%^ I plan on collecting Rough Rider knives, and I think you will too once you buy one. Just do it!
