No leaks if you follow these simple directions!
I have never written an amazon review before in the many years I have been a customer. I felt compelled to do so after seeing all the bad reviews this product has unfairly received. I studied all the good reviews and bad reviews before I bought this and I gave it a try. I've had it setup for a month now and it works PERFECTLY. Not a single drop of water has leaked. The secret to making sure it doesn't leak from the faucet tap is to follow the advice of another reviewer who had success with this method and posted it. I used his technique and it worked just as he said it would. When you install the faucet you will find that you are supplied with two rubber gaskets that go one on each side of the metal housing of the dispenser body. You will notice that these gaskets are flared out with the flared end facing away from the metal on either side. The secret is to make sure that it is tight enough that these gaskets are no longer flared but flush on either side. If they do not appear flush or almost flush, it's not tight enough and it might leak! Hand tightening is not enough, you need to use a pliers or ideally a 1-1/8" socket over the nut and turn that by hand. If the gasket is still not flush or you want to be extra sure, fill the tank with HOT water up to the top of the nut and let it sit for 5 minutes. Carefully drain the hot water and immediately take your socket and tighten it again. You will find you will get another half turn out of it at least. Obviously, be careful not to over tighten or you could bend the metal. So to summarize, if the gaskets do not appear flush its not tight enough! It may leak. It's that simple folks. All the jokers who are saying the good reviews are paid reviews or there is no wrong way to do it are fools. These are not paid reviews, it's common sense and yes there is a wrong way to do it. As far as it leaking out the seams as some have suggested I have no seen that and since those are all old reviews I think it's safe to assume the manufacturer has since corrected any of those kind of defects. I highly recommend this dispenser. For the ultimate combo buy the no spill cap that works for crocks. Works great. UPDATE: Over 2 years and 4 months later and not a single drop has leaked from either the tap or the seams. We use it every day. Fantastic product.

Good quality but higher maintainence
I just bought this item as an alternative to a standard ceramic crock. I have always used ceramic in the past and there is nothing wrong with the ceramic. They have proven themselves over time to be very hearty, durable and easily cleanable. However I just wanted to try the stainless steel model for it's lighter weight and durability because we Tend to move things around a lot. And I'm just a big stainless fan. Upon arrival it was in very good shape. The construction is hearty. I would say 16-18 gauge steel and very lightweight in comparison with the previous ceramic ones I have used. Here are some the differences I have taken into account. - The edges Are a little sharp. the bottom edge where the plate and sidewalls are connected create a lip that is sharp on the bottom. I would recommend setting this on something to avoid scratching your countertop. The top edge is also sharp but comes with a beefy plastic ring that will allow your water bottle to sit comfortably without scratching. The spigot is plastic and installs easily. I recommend tightening it snuggly by hand enough to avoid leaks. - another concern vs. ceramic is that this is made from two pieces of steel rather than one solid piece On the inside where the bottom and the sides join there is a small groove similar to the inside of a #10 can. A ceramic crock is smooth inside and is easily cleaned. this groove may present a problem area for Some. Yes clean filtered water Goes in but because of the air gap between the top of the crock and the neck of the bottle algae growth can and will happen. keep an eye on this. You should clean inside any crock frequently, usually between bottles. An extra toothbrush and a spritz of vinegar or bleach once In a while hould keep it clean. - The weight. The plus side of this crock is that it is very light. Although that may be a problem when refilling with a new Bottle. The weight of a ceramic crock usually keeps it in place. This one must be firmly anchored so it does not slip. - aesthetics. Stainless, as pretty as it is, usually shows fingerprints and watermarks easily. So you may have to clean this more often than a typical ceramic crock. In the end this is a great product but unless you're just looking for stainless to match your kitchen or the lighter weight they're largely the same product at the same price. It may be a little higher maintenance but it's well worth the quality if you choose to go this route.

It is not much to say about the product for it is very simple. It is simple to install and to clean. The only thing I replaced from the beginning was the faucet which is made from plastic. I replaced it with a metal one not because it was broken or leaking but am a little bit paranoiac when it comes to plastic products for kitchen. Due to my avaricious character I have not purchased the stand but installed the dispenser very close to the edge of the counter in order to have room for a glass or recipient under the faucet.
