Yes, they can be painted. I used acyrlic paint and it worked perfect. Had to go over the teal ones with a couple coats to cover the dark color.

What does the back look like? Is it a bit 3D or flat?

Flat, but same color as front. They are nicely finishes

They are different sizes. The biggest is about 3 inches big. The smaller ones are about 1.5-2 inches. Well made and are so cute
