My unit does not have a button, it is always on, you cannot change the intensity of the light or turn it off.

It only gives you 20 scanned slides with a free membership. You need to sign up and pay to have more slides scanned.

There was no software purchase necessary to use this light pad. It’s simply just a light pad. If you’re asking about the apps to use for your pictures or negatives on the light pad, then yes, there are in-app purchases. I have used Photomyne, Film Box, Slide Scan and Remini. There is a button that is flush with the frame in the upper left corner close to the power inlet. It’s a touch sensitive button. Not one you push.
