As a second in a trilogy I thought this book held its own. It could be a stand alone which is a good thing, but it’s fun to read if you read the Vine Witch first. I enjoyed learning Yvette’s history & seeing the magic she has inside her. Her roots were a surprise. The story brings in new characters that I loved Henri, Marion & Alexandre were all very well written, Marion is a gas, I wish she was my mother in law. I really only had 2 tiny complaints, 1. There were sections that were a bit slow or didn’t really fit super well. I felt like the parts that focused on Elena’s lineage were disjointed with the other parts of the storyline. But she ties it in at the end alright. My 2nd complaint is the lack of romantic interactions that their could be, I know it’s not a romance novel but Jean-Paul & Elena had a lot of sweet moments in the first book & we didn’t get that here much. I thought maybe we would get some with Yvette & Henri, but they were ripped apart too quickly for anything to happen. That was a disappointment, even so, I enjoyed the book & read it easily in 2 days. I’m looking forward to reading the third.

I enjoyed book 1 in this trilogy a lot. Book 2 is enjoyable but did not have the excitement of book 1 to me. It did bring us the story of one of the characters in book 1 and book 3 will bring us the last of three that met in book 1.

Seriously loved this book. Much faster paced then first…such a fun heroine. I loved her in first book and could not wait to hear her story. Another deep dive into the history of supernatural beings. So great! Recommend 100%…on to book three!
