Great lantern! Tips on opening the bottom, imp. battery info., etc. Would buy again!
Convenient, handy, and VERY bright lantern! LISTEN PEOPLE! For those who keep trying to insert all the batteries, ( both the D and the AA's ), DON'T!! You insert EITHER the three AA batteries, OR the three D batteries, but NOT BOTH TYPES! And it runs GREAT with just using the three AA batteries, btw! Also makes the lantern a lot lighter than if you used only the D batteries! AND FOR THOSE COMPLAINING about the USB port! Goodness people! It's NOT FOR CHARGING THE LANTERN! The USB port is for CHARGING A DEVICE like a phone! So in case of an emergency, you can charge your phone by plugging it into the lantern w/your charge cable!!! YOU CAN NOT CHARGE the lantern using a charge cable!!! The lantern ONLY operates with EITHER AA OR D batteries! You will destroy the lantern and cause over heating if you try to actually charge up the lantern! Anyway, this lantern has THREE light settings. Press it once and you get a VERY bright light. Press it again, and it dims slightly. Press it a third time and you get an orange(ish) nightlight amount of brightness. OH! To INSERT THE BATTERIES: You first pull/prey off the rubber gasket at the bottom of it, and TWIST off with your hand, the bottom in order to reach the batter compartment! Super easy to twist off, too! :-) This lantern is great! It's CONVENIENT to have for use in several situations, and it's great to NOT have to charge it up first! Nice also, to be able to charge my phone with the lantern, in case of a power outage! Remember: It operates using EITHER of the two types of batteries. ( 3-AA OR 3-D ), but NOT both at the same time!!! We love ours and will likely buy another!

Bright, with a Lot of Features
I love these lights. On high, they are as bright as a 40-watt incandescent bulb. You can use either AA batteries or D batteries. (Do NOT use both at the same time!) Here is the brightness and runtime, according to the manufacturer: If you use D batteries: On High mode: 500 lumens for 30 hours On Low mode: 100 lumens for 90 hours On nightlight mode: it provides 500 hours runtime If you use AA Batteries: On High mode: 475 lumens for 8 hours On Low mode: 100 lumens for 28 hours On nightlight mode: it provides 500 hours runtime (A 40-watt incandescent bulb is 470 lumens [/400-500].) D batteries last longer, but they cost a lot more, so the price between the two balances to almost the same. The IPX4 rating means it can handle light rain and a bit of splashing water, but it is not fully waterproof and cannot be submerged. THE BAD: These lights are packaged in thin cardboard (similar to cardstock). I have ordered them a few times (for me and for gifts). The ends of the packaging usually arrive opened, and the lights always arrive dusty. I think it is cardboard dust. This is unfortunate, but since they are IPX4 rated, I have no concerns with wiping them thoroughly. If yours arrive dusty, with the ends of the packaging open, it does not necessarily mean they are used (as some reviews thought). I have had my power go out a few times following storms. These lights are a blessing when that happens. I also like the smaller Energizer lanterns (B099FJYD9S). The are not as bright, they don't last as long, and they lack a lot of the features. They are smaller and cheaper, though. The little Kaito radios (B078J6968V) also come in handy during power outages.

Great Light - Substantial Value
Amazing price, especially labeled "Energizer". I bought two for power out emergencies, along with a suppy of "D" batteries (already stocked like most people with AA and AAA) and I am quite pleased with the light output, light level options, USB port, and the secure screw on bottom - connection. Running on D batteries, these lights will work perfectly for stationary and mobile purposes. I am not sure how they work with only three AA bateries, but if one runs out of D's it is a great option. There is heft and stability in the units when loaded with the three D's. The light level choice and available nightlight for sleeping will allow conserving batteries and extending runtime (the claims are pretty impressive as it is). Serious value for the purpose they are needed.

Great Light for Power Outages
Great little lantern. Light weight. Very bright. Thankful it has a lower setting when I don’t need it that bright. Uses 3 AA batteries which is what I want. I took off 1 star because of the USB port. It’s stupid. I buy battery lanterns for power outages. No way I’d waste the batteries & plug in a phone to charge. I have plenty of power banks for that.

Very Bright and well worth the price I paid
Seems built better than I expected. It’s definitely much brighter than I expected. I agree with another post- they’re shipped in a flimsy cardboard box. And my lantern had some light dust as well. It’s most likely just the cardboard dust from the box. I do NOT know how long 3 AA batteries will run this. My use will be intermittent so I won’t have it on for long periods of time. For less than $13 I think it was, this battery powered lantern exceeded my expectations by far. That’s rare. It’s not the most elaborate thing on the planet, but it is a simple lantern that is definitely high value for what it costs. I am going to buy another just because it’s so inexpensive and built well for what it is. VERY BRIGHT!

Let There Be Light!
Despite a bit of a plasticky build, this throws out a lot of light in a blackout situation. The lantern throws out a good amount of light that makes a small room visible in the dark. A bonus is that it will run on either AA or D batteries.

totally do not recommend.
I would give this zero stars if I could. I ordered three lanterns and they were all filthy, and the boxes were damaged. Plus the metal on the battery compartments were full of fingerprints. They all seem to have been used and returned. Also, they use a USB-A cord, which is hardly used anymore and the they don’t come with a cord. And, it was impossible to get the batteries in. They require 3-D batteries and three AA batteries and they don’t all fit in at the same time. oh, and they didn’t come with instructions.
