What's the highest heat this mat can withstand?

The highest setting on my Sunbeam iron is for linen fabric. I left it on the mat for five minutes to heat up. It is about an inch wider than my iron all around. Where no heat was directly on it, the mat curled slightly. As soon as it cooled, the mat returned to its normal shape. The slight curling didn’t make it hard to return the iron to the mat. On lower settings, the mat doesn’t change shape at all.

The pad is fine for heat, but when I set the steam iron flat on the pad, the steam keeps coming out. How to stop it from steaming while on the pad?

Set it on the stand instead of putting it flat on the pad. As long as it's down flat the steam will continue, that's what it's supposed to do.
