I used this to put a SATA III SSD on my IDE bus - and it worked but the data rate is under 3MBps. This renders it unusable. Plus whenever I do anything to the mounted SATA drive (open it, copy to it) my system gets hung up for like 10 seconds. So this adapter is useless to me. It's not really worth the hassle of returning so I will try something else. UPDATE: when I moved this to the end connector on the IDE cable (nothing else on cable), it suddenly came to life! So cable termination is muy importante, as in all high-speed data transfer applications. I'm now getting 30-80MBps with a SATA SSD, at least twice what the old hard drive will do. Works great! So, update to 5 stars.

Item worked right out of the box, very easy setup.

If you inspect an 3.5" IDE drive you notice that the ide cable slotted key on the connector is in the same direction as the shorter end of the power connector (the short side of the trapizoid). On this adapter it is the opposite! I tried anyway and it shorter the power supply. I was very lucky not to damage the computer I connected this to. This is dangerous!

Just plug it in and voila.. it's that easy.

I used this to enable me to use an older, 80 GB SATA drive in my Power Mac G4 with only an ATA interface. It truly is plug and play; it just works in there. One thing, however: on the SATA side facing the drive, there are all the bare solder points for the power and ATA headers facing toward the bare drive...which is metal. They just miss touching the drive, but I covered these all with electrical tape just to be sure there would not be a short.
