Be careful of the sharp pinprick!
I purchase this telescoping Babinski hammer for a medical student that I know. This is a great quality product. The medical student was able to use this hammer for the entirety of her medical school career and it is still functioning well. The head of the hammer feels disproportionately heavier than the stick. She also loves that the hammer can be dissembled. She has the option to disassemble it and put it in her white coat pocket as she needs. One thing to watch out for is the pinprick portion of the hammer. The pointy edge is surprisingly extremely sharp. When she first got the hammer, she tried it out with a friend and almost stuck her finger. She also almost stuck her finger when she forgot to disassemble the hammer and brushed her hand against her coat pocket on the hospital wards. Please be extremely careful/gentle when using the pinprick with patients. You don't need to press hard to do the Babinski test. A light touch is enough with this pinprick to elicit a positive Babinski sign. Also if you don't completely disassemble the hammer to put it in your coat/scrub pocket, please be sure to at least remove the pinprick portion because you can easily get stuck. Please see my attached photos of the hammer - how long it is, what it looks like with all the parts disassembled and assembled completely. I have included a ruler and some coins to help you determine the size and if this hammer will fit in your white coat/scrub pockets.

Works well, but loose screw
I really like this hammer. It has a nice weight to it, it folds up compactly and can fit into a pen pocket, and it works really well. I like the pointy end for doing plantar response. The only bad thing is the screw comes loose every couple of days - even with light use - and has to be re-tightened. It makes the head floppy and doesn't stay in position. If I was using this on a neuro rotation it would probably loosen by noon. The screw is bad metal, so it's already stripping out and pretty soon I probably won't be able to tighten it anymore. I like it well enough though so I will keep using it, and maybe try to look for a replacement screw. I did order a different, more expensive one though as a backup, but it hasn't arrived yet so I can't compare.

Great product and very portable/compact
Just got this product for use in making house calls. It folds up and easily fits in my doctors bag with no problems. It has a nice weight and heft to it. The quality is excellent. I would recommend it highly for any healthcare student or traveling healthcare profesional. Great price. I am very happy with my purchase.

Useful AND compact
When I first took this hammer out of its package, it felt a bit lighter than what I was used to. However, it works well when used, so I am happy with the lighter weight. The telescoping shaft and the folding end piece make it very easy to store. All in all, this is a great hammer.

Poorly constructed hinge ruins product
I was initially happy with my purchase for the first couple of days. The hammer is not quite heavy enough to be considered an ideal weight for a reflex hammer, but heavy enough to elicit good reflexes on a patient. The telescoping handle expands well and collapses well and stays in place in the extended or collapsed positions without issue. Unfortunately where this hammer fails is with the folding head. The head initially would stay in place when positioned in the perpendicular position for use, but after only a few days the hinge on the hammer's head became so lax that the head would collapse to the vertical (parallel) position when swinging the hammer. This made the hammer impossible to use. I tried tightening the screw on the head of the hammer as other reviewers had suggested, but this did not result in a significantly tighter joint. Shortly after tightening the screw, the hinge again became as lax as before. I have resorted to taping the hinge in place, but this is not an ideal solution. I would not purchase this product again given this problem.

Loose head
Great and portable, but having the same issues that others are having with the loose head which has made it unusable.

Great product
Exactly what I was looking for. Head is a little more flexible than I like, but it still works.

It lasted the month I needed it to work for my neurology rotation.
This isn't a high quality hammer - the rubber is hard and unyielding. Over time, the head will unscrew itself and not remain tight - requiring frequent adjustment and tightening down. However it did do its job for my one month neurology rotation and never failed to get a good strong reflex whenever I needed it.
