Koss 155954 VC20 Volume Control, Standard Packaging, 39-Inch Cord, Compatible with Cell Phones and Headphones

I already have two "no name" inline volume controls, but I needed another. This Koss unit was no more expensive from Amazon than another "no name" from an electronics store, and I've been a big fan of Koss since the late 70s, so I bought it. First, what it IS and ISN'T. This is a volume control, but NOT an amplifier. It will make your MP3 player, etc., quieter, but NOT louder. If your source is too quiet, look for a headphone amplifier. When I used to listen to a cassette walkman it was easy to turn down the volume when I needed to. The volume control was a thumbwheel right on the player. I have several MP3 players now, and they all have hi-tech context sensitive controls. This means (for me, anyway) that I have to look at the screen to make sure the button or slide control is set for volume. This control solves that problem. Set the player for a volume slightly on the loud side and use the inline control to get comfortable sound. If you need to lower the volume (to talk to someone, for instance) you can use the volume control without taking your player out of your pocket. This model has a three foot cord between the player and the volume control. This is nice if your player has an FM tuner -- MP3 players use the headphone cord as an FM antenna. My generic ones were only about 8 inches long and the FM reception suffered. The control has a clip on it, so you can wear your player safely in a padded pouch on your belt and clip the volume control to your chest pocket. A few reviewers have noted that lowering the volume attenuates high frequencies. I tried using the EQ settings on my player (I was also using Koss PortaPro headphones). When I had Bass Boost EQ settings I did notice some high frequency attenuation in both the Koss and generic inline volume controls; when the EQ was turned off I didn't notice as much high frequency attenuation, but the sound was very "flat." Anyway, I don't think I would have noticed it if other reviewers hadn't pointed it out. An inline volume control is very handy for portable MP3 players, etc., and this unit is well thought out, and works great.

This is yet another case of the product delivered being somewhat different than the product image, which is not agreeable in principle of making an online purchase. The product I reviews has a slightly different casing that the image and also the wording is not white but grey. My problem is that in this case I feel with this image the seller is trying to give a somewhat skewed image on the device. For one, the 3.5mm male connection(going into your device that is producing sound) is not a right angle connector. This can be a issue for some users since depending on their intended usage a straight connection can cause undue torquing on the 3.5mm port potentially causing damage to either the connector or the jack on the device itself. To balance this somewhat the 3.5mm cable is flexible and the jack is fairly small in comparison to some straight jacks that are larger and stick out quite far. Secondly, the metal clip that is supposed to attach the device to a shirt, pocket, ect.(which is not shown in the product image) is really cheap so does not hold fast to whatever you try to clip it on. Lastly, the volume control it recessed into the chassis so it only protrudes slightly. This can be taken as a positive or a negative depending on your perspective. On the positive you will not have any issue with the volume control breaking or the volume being altered unintentionally. However because of this, altering the volume can take slightly more deliberate effort than usual. It also means that it might be uncomfortable for those of you with larger fingers. This again has to do with your preference and how you change the volume(either with the tip of your finger close to the nail or with the flat of the tip of your finger.) Overall I would have preferred the item been closer to $5 than the $10 it costs, but I was in a hurry(which I rarely ever am when it comes to electronics). So keep what I said in mind and look around for something that might fit you better before deciding. That is unless you were like me and just need an inline volume controller quickly and without hassle. ADDITION I noticed this a while ago buy forgot to add it to my review, when changing the volume the sound to the headphones(or whatever device is connected)is changed so that the volume in one ear becomes louder than the other. It happens when the volume is only changed slightly so only another minor move is required to bring the sound back to normal but it is noticeable.

Bastante contento con su funcionamiento, no me molestaría pagar un poco mas por algo con materiales Premium (Pero este se veía como la mejor opción) pero es bastante buena, cumple y no introduce ruido.

If you are looking for a compact inline volume control as an extension, for either earbuds or headphones when it may not be easy for you to control the device directly, I would highly recommend this.

Purchased this so I could control the volume of my PC speakers which I am using for my Xbox, this cable allows me to adjust the volume as the controls on my actual speakers are only compatible with Windows

I use a radio, a Sony ICF-7600GR, that is a little "hot" on the audio output jack. Even with radio volume at minimum the sound level was too loud for my mono earphone. I listen to AM radio stations overnight with that earphone, so it was critical to reduce the volume to a level that was still audible, but not distractingly loud. This unit arrived today and I tested it immediately. It works perfectly, and I now have much more control over the volume level. I presumed it would work OK with mono, even though it is made for stereo - and it works great. Very happy with this purchase. Koss is a quality brand. It's maybe a lot of money for a simple potentiometer - but the build quality made it worthwhile.
