I had high hopes for this guard for my 6 year old who was still sucking her thumb at night. We had tried gloves and all sorts of other things. She wants to quit sucking her thumb and would go to sleep without sucking it, but at some point during the night she would pull off the glove and revert. This guard is a soft silicone and she EASILY pulled her thumb out during the night no matter how snugly I adjusted the strap. This might work for a young toddler, but not for an older child.

After about 3 weeks of our 5yr old wearing this constantly a small piece tore off. It didn't seem to stop her from sucking her thumb when she was going to sleep at all, however, she didn't suck her thumb when she was watching TV or relaxing. The swelling of her thumb did go down. We kept this on for nearly 2 months, taking it off only when she was writing or bathing. The rubber of the band that goes around the hand had started to tear at that point as well so we discontinued use as it really wasn't helping any more than us reminding her to keep her thumb out of her mouth. Disappointed it didn't work but these things don't have a 100% success rate by any means.

This worked for both my boys ages 5 and 7. We had tried just about everything i could think of to quit but got nowhere. The boys both wanted to quit but just didnt know how. We got 2 of the devices, one for each kid. They wore them most of the time for about a week except while in school. They kept telling me that they quit and didnt feel like sucking any more but i kept them on for a few more days anyway. They did not like wearing the device but we bribed them with toys for keeping it on. That worked. Perhaps they quit sucking just so they would not have to wear it anymore. When they got to stop wearing it we had them put on a bandaid as a reminder. I really dont care why it worked. But it worked for us! They could wiggle the thumbs out if they really wanted so if you have a kid that is older and really not ready to quit it may not work but it is relatively inexpensive so i feel like its worth a try. I wish i had done this when the kids were 1 or 2 years old.

I bought this product w/ my own money. the company is not paying me to do a review. I've used this product with my 3 in a half yr old son. At first I bought the small size but it didn't fit and was extremely tight on his hand so I sent it back and got the large size. day one of use he did not want to wear it (of course) and kept trying to take it off. I had a talk with him and after that he didn't try to take it off. the first night was hard, he woke up in the middle of the night begging to take the product off (so beware the first day and night is the hardest) with that being said, he has now had it own for almost a week and no thumb sucking has occurred! I only take it off for bath time and then put it back on. everyday I am seeing progress where he won't even lift his thumb to put in his mouth! I've tried everything, even the yucky stuff that goes on like nail polish but it didn't work and made him sick. dr thumb has been working so far and I will leave another review after the recommended 3-4weeks of use

This product is extremely easy to be taken off by your child. Works fine during the day when you can keep an eye on them to make sure they dont pull the thumb guard off. But car rides or sleep time my son just pulls the thumb part right off, leaving the wrist strap still attached. Even tried to add notched in the palm and back of hand straps to try and secure it further, didnt help at all the silicone is so strechy it takes little effort to remove.

Great device. It really works. I bought it for my two year old. The first few nights that she had it on she barely slept. She kept waking up and wanting me to remove the device. It was difficult for me also. It broke my heart because I felt that I was making her miserable. On about the fourth night she would go to sleep and stayed asleep without waking up. I kept it on for 10 days and she's no longer sucking her thumb. It's off now but I watch her like a hawk. She has never tried since to suck the thumb. I am very pleased because I started to see how oral structure was being affected by her sucking her thumb. When she tried to remove her finger from the device all I did was tell her not to touch it and distracted her. Wow... great product idea and it really works.

My son is five years old and starts school in the fall. I didn't want the other kids to make fun of him, plus he is messing up his teeth, which will cost a lot of money to fix. I have tried everything to get my son to stop sucking his thumb. I truly love this thumb gaurd and it works!! The only thing is my son can figure out how to get it off. Which wasn't good at first but I would take surgical tape over it so he couldn't get it off. Now after a week I didnt need to use the tape and after three weeks he doesn't have to wear it during the day and only wears it at night. I have been thinking about keeping it off at night but not sure he is ready yet but I sure it will be soon.
