Perfect for plein air and that value color matching hole is a great tool for artists. It’s compact, great quality doesn’t warp or bend and seems to hold up to high temps when left in the car. Other brands may be cheaper but they are also made of a lighter weaker plastic material from china. Aren’t as perfectly smooth to pull the slide in and out. The Amazon photos are accurate and don’t need to post a photo of it.

I've been focusing a lot on improving my composition and values lately, and this tool—small as it is has been a game-changer. This View Catcher is made of lightweight, yet sturdy, plastic and is the ideal neutral grey for color matching/identifying. It has a small round opening that helps you in seeing true color and making accurate value judgments. I find it to be a very handy tool while painting landscapes outside. It seems to be durable and it easily fits in a pocket, pochade, or can even be hung from a cord around your neck for ease of use. It opens both horizontally and vertically to allow you to frame the best composition, either as a square or rectangle. If choosing a rectangular composition, it helps you to determine whether a vertical or horizontal layout works best. With it, you can view your intended subject matter without the distraction of surrounding elements. The only real issue I have with it is that it's quite small (3.5" x 3.5"); so I do still occasionally use my larger homemade one. I'm also finding that the numbers can be a bit difficult to read on it in certain outdoor lighting; but otherwise it helps get the job done.

This is the second ViewCatcher I own and I bought the second one to keep in my main camera bag. I use it very often to help find the composition of a photo without having to swing up my camera. I also use it to find the best ratio for the photo, whether it is a 12 x 16, 8 x 10, 8 x 12, 9 x 12, 11 x 14, or 1 x 1. Note that all of these ratios can be reduced, except for the 1 x 1. So, a 12 x 16 is the ratio of 3 x 4 and an 8 x 10 is a 4 x 5, etc. This ViewCatcher is being promoted by Michael Scott on YouTube and his channel name is ScottymanPhoto. The ViewCatcher is made of extremely durable plastic and will last a long time. I know it will last because I've had my first one for many years and it is as good today as it was the day I bought it. I also like that it has a hole designed in one corner to make it easy to put it on a lanyard so it can hang around my neck while I'm working.

This tool is very useful when you're outdoors and want to frame the landscape in order to paint it. It is easy to use and very portable. The only thing I can complain is that it didn't arrive with the original packaging and I really wanted to read the information written on it. Anyway, the product is fantastic.

Excellent additional tool for helping with drawing for my students. I like the fact that they have measurements labelled on the view finder for the different proportions of paper size used. The little circle in the middle for checking tones and to determine if the colour is warm or cool, they hv created the view finder in a neutral grey as comparison. will purchase more!

This little viewer provides an eye view of your subject without the paraphernalia surrounding it. It acts like a camera viewfinder and with it, you can focus entirely on what you are painting. It’s well made and comes with size marks so you can adjust your view from square to rectangular. Delivery was longer than expected but when it arrived it was well packed. Recommended for anyone who needs to focus on a particular subject when painting, or for photographic views.

Product came on time and was what was advertised. Works well, is functional and practical in helping identify the best format for a proposed painting, drawing etc.

Multifunctional! The cut out holes let's u check values and the markings let u set ur pic size! And the product fits in my bag easily. It's very firm plastic so it won't break, and you also get a printed sheet with hints and tips on how to use. I certainly found it helpful. It's a mid tone grey colour, so makes it easier to pick ur values.
