Best first mechanical watch
Bought this on my 18th birthday and I’ve worn it every day for the past 2 years. i broke the pin that holds the bracelet on twice but only because i never take this watch off. The watch will speed ahead a minute every day so i just have to wind it back a tiny bit in the morning. not a big deal at all. it’s a beautiful watch for the price. Excellent choice for a first mechanical watch.

Excelent watch, horrible strap, best value automatic watch out there
Beautiful watch, the face is rather silver than white, it reflects beautifully in light or the sun. Mine looks like getting faster 7 seconds every day, I mean for the price even 15 seconds would be great. If I wanted super precise watch, I would have gone for a Kinetic quartz or solar, for the price it's perfect for an automatic low end watch. I ordered this watch with a Hadley Roma brown leather strap for around 15 bucks and looks absolutely beautiful, the metal strap it came with is trash, expect some cheap 3-4 bucks strap, Seiko threw all their heart and soul into the in house movement and dial they forgot about the strap. Best value for the price, this is gonna be my daily wearer for the next years to come until I can afford a better movement watch.Rob Ng

A novel and brilliant homage
Let me begin by saying that this is indeed an unusual seiko 5. It seems to pay homage to the calatrava 5127 which is indicated by the crown guard. The bezel profile is slightly more than the Calatrava. The brushed and polish contrast also distinguish it from that fact, but prevalent nonetheless. The dial, in my opinion, is more a soft white than silver, which make it extremely attractive on a black leather strap. The movement is brilliant and very reliable, whatever reliable means when it comes to time, but there it is. Going back to the crown again, it’s 3 O’ clock position is very novel and very classic which make this purchase extra special.

BEAUTIFUL WATCH!!!
You can’t go wrong when buying this watch, you got automatic movement for that price. It totally worth the money. But, I would consider buying an exchange strap for this watch just because the bracelet doesn’t feels that great. I buy this watch and change it with 20 mm Dark Brown Leather strap and it turns out BEAUTIFUL!!

Seiko's certificate of Guarantee is missing from booklet.
Beautiful watch but question the newness of it because it is missing the Certificate of Guarantee from Seiko that is supposed to be included in the manual. See pic.

Lost time each day
Lost time each day until it was losing 15 minutes a day. It was an automatic watch that I wore 24/7, so it was obviously defective. I later learned that any Seiko without an Alpha in the next to last digit of the model number is made in China. Those ending in J1 are made in Japan, P1 is made in Philippines, and K1 is made in Korea.

Good value wrist watch
The finish of this wrist watch is what I'm looking for: simple design with no flashy stuff (well, since it's still new, it's still flashy anyway, but I can't help it)Pro:- Good value wrist watch- Hopefully no need to change battery every 2-3 years, since I just need to make sure to keep watch moving so that the kinetic will recharge the battery- Seems sturdy. My son bangs it from time to time, and it takes the abuse pretty well.Cons:- Feel cheap; the wrist band seems made of flimsy metal. I don't think there's nothing wrong with the manufacturing of it. My guess is because this is a cheap watch anyway, so I can't expect much off of it.- Edges of wrist band is rough. It's not enough to scratch the skin, though. However, it's rougher than my wife's. But ... my wife's is twice the price anyway :)- Added Dec 18, 2012: it seems that the watch will miss 1 minute per week.
