Can poles be removed to make this fit 48 inches?

What is the difference between the otginal and the new version. One is $29.99 and the new version is $64?

If the version you are buying does not say "ships from"/"sold by" Amazon.com in that area to the right, we can not vouch for the product, as it's a third-party seller who is selling it.
