DK books are a great! I may not agree with everything in this book, but overall it's a good read.
I have several DK books; I absolutely love them and as both a visual learner and avid reader, I do appreciate all the work put into these books. I'm a biblical scholar, and though my bookcases are filled with plenty of academic books, I still love to buy these DK illustrated books. They are fun to read and the illustrations aid in remembering and learning all the vast subject matter in each of the books I own. When it comes to the section on Islam, however, I was really hoping that where the word, "God" is, "Allah" should have been. The author does state how 'In Arabic "Allah" means, "the God". But any Muslim will tell you that the god they serve--Allah, is NOT one and the same as Adonai Elohim Tseva'ot--The LORD God of Hosts; El Elyon--the Most High God. The reason is because Allah DOES NOT have a son, whereas the Most High God has a Son, and His name is Yeshua--JESUS. It is stated both in the OT in the Pentateuch, the prophecies, in the Psalms, and of course, and throughout the NT that Jesus IS not only the Son of the Most High God, but He is ONE and the SAME with Him and the Ruach HaKodesh--the Holy Spirit. Allah also is not a personal god that one could have a relationship with as the biblical YHWH is, and even more so, His Son Jesus. The more one reads up on Allah and his prophet, the clearer it becomes that Allah and YHWH are NOT one and the same. There is enough confusion in this world when it comes to belief systems. The many Christian sects that have come about since the Reformation haven't helped matters either, especially with some heretical teachings that gone totally against God's written Word. But if we can just clear this ONE thing up--that the entity called "Allah" is NOT one and the same with the biblical YHWH--it may help people to understand the vast difference between Islam's teachings, sharia laws, jihad, etc. versus what the whole counsel of God teaches. The Muslims may have their prophet Muhammed, but God's Word not only promised a Savior, but the LORD God delivered on that promise to the world by giving us His Son to die on the Cross so that we could have salvation and redemption through Him.

This book is absolutely beautiful. A must have for anyone who has an interest in religion and theology. The chapters are organised in a way that makes sense and I love the annotated images. This would be a great present for anyone studying religion or with an interest. Looks beautiful on my bookshelf!
