how long do they last ?

Kind of hard to answer. For 5 years I had been refreshing/replacing every 6 months with no evidence of rodents. This year, however, I doubled the strength and I still have a mouse problem. I even found one pouch bitten thru and the sawdust like material gone. Do they know want to use this stuff as nesting material? Did the manufacturer change the mixture? I do not know, but this year the pouches seem ineffective

How big of an area do they cover? How many would be recommended for a crawl space?

It covers NOTHING. These sachets do NOTHING. For a crawl space, for rodent control and repellent, NONE are recommended. This does NOT work.
