When we've had thunderstorms. I enjoyed reading this delightful story, with beautiful illustrations, to my children, and now to my grandchildren, Then, we gather all of the ingredients and make the delicious cake (recipe at the end of the book)

I read this book to my Kindergarten class as part of teaching "Leader in Me" program Habit # 1 - Be Proactive. It was a lovely story. The children were engaged throughout the story and the art was lovely. We talked about how we can make choices so that we are not afraid of things just as the character in the book made choices to be brave while getting the eggs, the milk, the dry ingredients and the secret ingredients. I highly recommend this as read aloud book for children.

I bought this for myself since I still read children's books. I bought it very excited and even though the book is good looking and the illustrations and hardbinding lovely, the story was alright. I am not too sure which age group it would be for but I'm interested to try it out with a couple of children I know. There's a recipe for Thunder Cake which I loved and know that kids would love finding that at the end, and be excited to try it at home. So if you're buying it for a kid, heads up about that so that you can be prepared for some baking request! I really like that part of the book that it involves children in the work the grown up is doing. It keeps them occupied while they deal with a fear and also helps them feel close to the adult. So it's a good book for kids. But not too good for adults who still read children's lit.
