Q: do they work for washing shoes as well?

Yes, they work great for washing shoes. Put each shoe in a separate laundry bag. You can even leave the laces in the shoes because they won't get caught in the washing machine parts. The bags are great for backpacks, purses, hats and anything with Velcro that you don't want to stick to anything else in the laundry.
