The shoes are made out of pretty soft material and the soles are very pliable. You could try but they might get torn up and wear out quickly.

Can the strap be adjusted?

Absolutely. The black strap around the main body of the shoe is elasticized and can be adjusted around the lower ankle area. There's also a small adjustment at the top of the bootie, where the bottom of the calf meets the ankle. Both adjustments are Velcro, so be careful if you're wearing tights.
