Shotokan Karate Handbook: Beginner to Black Belt

It has all of what I learned in karate. It has all the katas I’ve learned. It’s been years since I’ve taken karate. This brings back memories. Well written and the pictures are amazing. I can do the moves like I use to. I recommend it to anyone who is interested in martial arts.

i have collecteed bout 20 shotokan books over past year...and will still be buying bout 20 more this book and the advanced follow up boook...are prob the best shotokan books available on amazon at present they cover just about every technique u could ask for in kihon setion....cover kumite forms...katas....bunkai applications....sellf deefence ideaas.....everything u could assk for....in a simple logical systematic layout excellent book just a tip...i wanted to aadd some breakfalls/throws/ground figghting to my karatte and taekwondo...without over doing it.....u only need 2 books.....sam furys book on ground fighting....and a judo book callled judo basic principles..by eric dominy...thats it

This is a fully inclusive resource taking you from beginner to black belt. Brilliant resource!!

I often recommend this book and it's companion, THE ADVANCED SHOTOKAN KARATE HANDBOOK, to my students. It is easy to follow, clearly written, and the position arrows under the pictures of kata moves really helps when you're learning a new kata. I tell my students that they should have several kata books as references because the more resources you have, the better you will learn kata and the better and more detailed your kata will be. Both books are important additions to the Shotokan karateka's library.
