Q: Were is the subwoofer connection?

Coax/opti1 is supposed to be a sub out also. I've heard earlier models did not function this way, but recently purchased units through Amazon should work. You'll need a 3.5 aux to rca cable for it to function I believe. I hooked up a powered sub to mine using the high level speaker inputs on the sub.

The rated power output is 45w+45w @8ohm, THD + N = 0.04%

Q: When using the sub-out with a powered sub can the sub volume or levels be controlled via this unit?

Yes, and no. The SMSL's sub output level is variable, and raises/lowers in sync with the amps volume position, but you still have to set the master volume (for the sub) on the powered sub itself. I've got mine parked at about the 11 o'clock position, but results will vary depending on your setup. You will also need to find the crossover sweet spot on the subs low pass filter control.
