Epiphone DR-212 Dreadnought 12-String Acoustic Guitar, Mahogany Body, Spruce Top, 25.5 scale

After being on the fence with this guitar for over a year, I went ahead and took the plunge. I was worried that I was going to blow $170 on a child’s toy that didn’t look, play, or sound right, but I was so wrong. This guitar is great! Do not worry about the price because this is a quality Epiphone guitar. If you have been wanting a 12-string, get this one now. Looks: This is the best surprise. It’s a great looking guitar. The fit and finish are on par with much more expensive guitars. The color of the top on my guitar is very light, and I like that. The back and sides are a nice, dark finish that really pops. Tuning: Tuning a 12-string is always rough, so considering the challenge, I am pleased so far. When I got it out of the box, the strings were very low and had very little tension. Not sure if this is a function of the cold weather or if it was shipped that way to protect the guitar from breaking. I actually used a string winder to help tighten them up while tuning it for the first time. I tuned it the first day I had it, then left it alone for about a day and had to really tune it again, but after that it has just needed fine adjustments. Playability: The action is nice. Even for a 12-string, it doesn’t require much more pressure than my 6-string. I played for a while, and my fingers did not feel any more fatigued than normal. The guitar body is big which is fine for me because I’m a big guy, but smaller framed players might struggle. The neck, however, is about as flat as any 12-string I’ve ever played. Players with small hands or short fingers will be pleasantly surprised. Sound: This is really all that matters, after all. I really like the sound. It’s a little brassy, but it does have some deep rich tones in there. It’s also nice and loud (probably due to the large body mentioned above). I haven’t replaced the factory strings yet (and one of them broke, so I guess I have an 11-string guitar right now!), so I will hold off on a final judgment until I get some quality strings.

Tanto costa, tanto vale, anzi anche qualcosina in meno. Da apprezzare l'imballo e le meccaniche, ma in quanto a timbro sonoro lascia davvero perplessi. Non comprendo le valutazioni a 5 stelle su amazon com.

Die Gitarre hat einen sauberen Klang, die Bünde sind sauber verarbeitet und sie liegt Dank ihres Gewichtes sehr gut in der Hand. Sie ist leicht zu greifen und verzeiht auch den einen oder anderen unsauberen Griff ;-) Aber das bin ich so von Epiphone gewöhnt - und auch diesmal nicht enttäuscht worden. Sollte die Gitarre für Jugendliche gekauft werden, bitte Folgendes beachten: Die Dreadnought Form verlangt doch etwas längere Arme. Ich habe sie meinem Sohn geschenkt, der mit 16 Jahren und 184cm gut damit umgehen kann. Unser Neffe mit 12 Jahren und 170cm tut sich da schon noch etwas schwerer. Für den Preis eine super Gitarre von sehr guter Qualität!

It's been 20 years since I bought my first guitar. I'd like to say that I've got 20 years of experience under my belt, however life got in the way and I haven't played for many years. Perhaps I'm experiencing my first mid-life crisis, but I've been missing playing for the last year or so. So many times I've been listening to spotify and thinking 'man I'd love to play this on guitar', so I finally bit the bullet and ordered the Epiphone. I did a ton of shopping around and comparing 12 strings. A niche product, there's certainly not the same availability of guitars that you'd find in a 6 string. In this price range I found a Yamaha FG820-12 (I love Yammies), Fender CD-100, a Stag SA420D, a Seagul Walnut 12, a Denver 12-string, and a Norman B-20. These all ranged in price from ~$200 to ~500, with the Epiphone sitting in the lower half. I ruled out the Seagull as the nut width was larger than most of the others. Though the larger nut would be better for finger picking, I thought as I was getting back into playing it would be easier with a smaller width. I was able to find a play a few 12-strings at Steve's Music and Long & Mcquaid's - and narrowed down to the Yammie and the Epiphone. Quite frankly I couldn't tell the difference in sound between the two - and I actually liked the look of the headstock on the Epiphone better. That combined with it being a bit less expensive, and Epiphone's lifetime warranty had me sold. I must admit that on receiving the Epiphone from Amazon and trying it out I found it needed some adjustment. There was some fret-buzz (driving me nuts) and the strings were sub par (to say the least!). I almost returned it in favor of going downtown to pick up the Yammie but decided I'd take it down to Steve's and have them do a set-up (after all, I have to give them some business for letting me try their guitars). I have to say that after the set-up it sounds fantastic! They are also do a very reasonably priced set-up (considering it's a 12-string) as compared to other stores, so it's well worth your while to go down and have them do an adjustment for $60. I can wholeheartedly recommend this guitar! My advice, go to your local shop and try some of the guitars I've mentioned - see what you like (especially how comfortable it is to you) and have the shop do a set-up if you buy it from Amazon (quite often it's included if you buy it from the shop, but more expensive for the guitar in general). You won't regret it!
