Q: How do i fix this error: usb 10/100/1000 lan has a self-assigned ip address and will not be able to connect to the internet?

Q: How does the pass through charging work? i assume it can charge my dell xps, but can't figure out how.

It is not a charger if you have a usb it can charge it reads memory cards and it has a HDMI port too you can plug it into the side of the computer

Q: What is the difference between Gen 1 and Gen 2?

From what I understand, the first generation product will not provide sufficient power to charge your computer. If the power supply is connected to the hub, the hub will not charge the computer. The Gen 2 version will. I purchased the gen 1 version and returned it. I did not purchase the gen 2 version. Rather, I purchased the OWC 14 port powered model and it works perfectly in my situation.

Q: Have you had cable issues? my owc hard drive with a usb-c/thunderbolt cable's too short often loses contact with my imac if moved.

I haven't had any issues at all ... works fine.
