Yes, the bells are metal...however, mine came damaged and did not look true to pic. Two bells were broken off inside box and thick thread which how it's assembled was in knots. Reached out to Amazon to return and they emailed me return label with bar code to print out. Notified them I was having trouble with printing label and they've yet to get back to me...good luck

Q: Why did mine get a white coating on the bells after being outdoors a couple weeks?

Wish i knew. Mine has been outside for over a year without any discoloration. Anything over the chime that might affect its color!

Love these BWINKA windchimes

Nothing to dislike here. I ordered 2 butterfly; 1 for each side in front of the garage. I also ordered birds, owls and hummingbirds. I love all of them. All are under the eves around the house. They are beautifully designed and detailed. They came perfectly packaged so you do not have to struggle to get them untangled like some I have bought.
