Oustanding, Heart-Wrenching, Grusesome, One of the best I’ve read
I loved this book throughout all the emotions. I was touched and felt grief and joy. At the start I was hesitant to read it and resisted but around 50% through I really got wrapped up in this incredible story.Must-Read Classics

Brutal, Brilliant, and Bloody Horrible
Not an enjoyable read, but an unforgettable one. Lord of the Flies drags you straight into the ugliest bits of human nature and refuses to look away. A vicious study in fear, groupthink, and what happens when there are no consequences. Disturbing, clever, and deeply British in the worst way.

Glad I read this finally.
I've known of this story for years but never read it. Really beautiful, interesting and moving. Light and dark, madness, human behavior. Hope. And very relevant now with the fascism and right wing populism of the 21st century. A warning for us all. I also love the use of words and language. Great read. Famous for a reason.

A Timeless Classic that Still Resonates
Lord of the Flies is an absolute masterpiece that has left an indelible mark on literature. William Golding's exploration of the dark underbelly of human nature is both disturbing and thought-provoking. This novel, set on a deserted island where a group of boys must fend for themselves, delves deep into the complexities of power, morality, and the fragility of civilization. Golding's ability to portray the descent into chaos and savagery is both chilling and brilliantly executed. What struck me the most about Lord of the Flies is its enduring relevance. Although it was written over half a century ago, the themes it addresses remain painfully pertinent today. The characters and their actions serve as a stark reminder of the potential for cruelty that lies within us all. Golding's writing is hauntingly beautiful, drawing you into the heart of the island and the minds of the boys. This is a book that stays with you long after you've turned the final page, forcing you to confront the darkness that can lurk within humanity. In short, Lord of the Flies is a must-read for anyone who appreciates literature that challenges the way we view society and human nature. It's a haunting tale that will make you ponder the depths of human depravity and the fragility of civilization. I can't recommend this book enough, and I'm certain it will continue to be a timeless classic for generations to come.

Great story, dated prose
According to Kindle, I reached 60%, at which point I gave up.The story is excellent, but I got seriously bored with Golding's prose. Half the time, I was fighting to figure out what he was trying to describe. In some passages, I had to read a sentence more than once, and I was still a little baffled. Throwing in clipped conversations of kids interrupting each other and the fact that most of them are not having a meltdown of feeling stranded, the novel began to irk me.There was no description of any plane wreckage, why the boys survived but the adults did not, where these kids were going to (or from), and why most of them did not know each other before meeting up on the island. You know—backstory! After saying all that, I understand that Golding wanted readers to make up their own minds regarding what the story is about or what it stands for. For this, I give Golding a lot of credit because it is a masterful novel of how civilization can descend into anarchy from (unwarranted) fear and human desire for power.Luckily, we have the superb 1963 film by Peter Brook, which got a lovely 1080p Blu-ray remaster from The Criterion Collection.

An absolute classic
Lord of the Flies is, of course, an absolute classic. I've read it a few times now. I actually bought this copy for my son, who is studying it at school, but re-read it myself before giving it to him.
