Good Value for Money
Based on excellent reviews, I bought this stove and haven't been disappointed. Shipping time from Germany was only six days. I bought an MSR Stowaway 1100 ml pot specifically to use with the stove. The stove packs flat and easily fits in the pot, along with my condiments, utensils, firestarting gear and dishwashing soap. The constuction of the stove is first rate. It is easy to put together and take apart. When assembled, it is solid and makes a good potstand, even for a relatively large pot. With an aluminum foil windscreen, the stove performs well, even in moderate wind. These hobo stoves usually work best if one takes the time to lay a fire, instead of just throwing in sticks. This one is no exception. The wood is nearly, but not entirely, burned to ash, which is very good for a stove like this. The ash plate on the bottom is a nice touch, rarely found in hobo stoves. With the pot I use, it is easy to feed wood through the front port while cooking. If you have fuel prepared and ready, this stove is easy to cook on. It isn't just for boiling water. The stove performs adequately with a Trangia spirit burner, but that configuration obviously is an afterthought. If the Bushcraft Essentials directions are followed, the front panel is replaced before using the burner. This makes it difficult to access the burner and impossible to use the burner simmer ring. If you want to put the burner out instead of letting it burn out, you have to remove the trivet bars and drop the closed simmer ring (or something) down into the stove. That's awkward. The problem is solved by leaving the front panel off and relying on the trivet bars to provide structural integrity to the stove. On the other hand, the stove works very well with fuel tablets. With the fire plate in the upper position, it is easy to slide the tabs into the stove and light them through the front port. With a windscreen in moderate wind, I found that I could reliably bring one cup of water to a low boil with one Coghlan's tablet in eight to nine minutes. Three Coghlan's tablets, placed on edge next to each other are sufficient to boil three cups of water, enough for a cup of hot tea and a hydrated meal. I intend to carry tablets for backup fuel. In summary, I am pleased with the quality construction of the stove, the utility of it, and the very reasonable price.

Fits in your pocket and boils your water in less than 5 minutes
This little stove is one of the best compromise you can find between portability and efficiency. It fits inside the back pocket of your jeans yet can help you start a fire and boil water in less than 5 minutes. So you can easily pack this for a trek, a day at the beach, into a survival EDC that you want to remain compact. There are a few advantages to a hobo stove: less smoke, easier lighting, fewer combustion materials (here it is fairly versatile: wood, esbit system, even pellets because the holes in the base are small). It is a lot more discreet than an open fire, and it is NOT an open fire (these are forbidden where I live but here this would constitute a loophole). It is also a lot safer because the fire is concentrated in one area and the ash tray collector keeps it mostly in place. Also the stove is quite stable and can handle a large pan easily despite its size. Finally, the pieces are made of fine metal and where well crafted so that everything holds its place and the sides are not creased by the fire. This is why you should think about what price you put in these. The difference in price will be material dependent. This one is going to last long. I know they also make a titanium version which must be lighter. The design is very well thought of with holes and dents where you need them to handle your stove with a twig or a knife. The only issue I had with this is the dismantling because the edges of the metal are coarse and I cut my fingers twice. Well, I don't care so much because I was at home and outside I use gloves. The sides have little dents to secure everything in place and it was a bit difficult to separate the pieces because of it after the first burn. Apart from this, really a useful and lightweight solution for your camping needs. In the video, I show the stove in use to make charcloth (I didn't mention you need a hole in the box). It worked like a charm.

Consigliato! Ciao a tutti!

I've tried a few other stoves before like the Esbit and the British Army hexy stove, but they have all been lacking in some respect, where you can use it or what fuel you can use etc. I saw a video for the Firebox on youtube and thought it was great, but too big and heavy. So I started looking around for smaller alternatives, and there were a few. Most notable were the Emberlit and The Pocket Stove. I was poised to hit the BUY button on The Pocket Stove when I found a vid for The BushBox. The pro's and con's will differ for each of you depending on who you are, where you are and what you're using it for, but I found this to be the best for the following reasons: Out of the 3, the Bushbox was the cheapest at £20 (The Pocket Stove = £25) and the Emberlit around £26). (The BushBox came with trivets as standard, whereas the with others you had to buy things like this as accessories pushing up the cost). The Emberlit was too big for me (I understand they have now made a smaller version to compete with these stoves), the Pocket Stove was thinner and I didn't like the way you could see it flexing when the guy was putting it together). Both the Emberlit and The Pocket Stove have a funneled top meaning the pot stand area was quite small. By contrast, the BushBox was square at the top meaning I could stand more than a cup on it and still have it stable. The Emberlit only has a solid base plate WITHOUT holes, The Pocket Stove only has a base plate WITH holes, BUT the BushBox has BOTH meaning I can burn wood and have the solid plate underneath to catch the hot stuff, also, by swapping the plates around I can use this with my Trangia alcohol burner and solid fuels such as hexamine, making this more versatile and safer than the other two. I favour the Trangia with this, I haven't used one since I was a kid, but it works very effectively with this stove (I boiled 4 pint mugs from cold and got a fifth hot enough to wash in off one fill), and I know that when I run out of fuel I can switch to twigs no problem (meaning that I don't have to carry a ton of fuel with me or worry about running out). I love this stove. It's what I have wanted all along but didn't know it. It's sturdy, well manufactured (as you would expect from the Germans) a useful size, not too heavy (this packs away so light and small I don't know I'm carrying it (the pouch it's in probably weighs more!)), it's easy to put together and take apart. I can use it anywhere , it's discreet and doesn't give off much light or smoke and because it's got an ash pan it reduces the risk of setting fire to your environment. It's small enough to count as EDC if you're happy not carrying fuel for it. I have had this so that the trivets glow red hot, and yet it is cool enough to handle and put away a few minutes later. It CAN be a little labour intensive using wood, as you have to keep feeding it to keep it going, but I am going to try it with small barbeque briquettes or something similar to see if I can get away from that and get a more even and sustainable fire for the odd occasions when I am cooking for more than myself. Like I said at the top, we're all different and we will all have different requirements, so I recommend that you check out your options as I did and come to your own conclusions. But having said that, I have found NO drawbacks to this burner other than the one I mentioned. It is a brilliant little thing and I am sure I will be carrying this with me for a very long time and I wish I'd had it a long time ago. I would DEFINITELY recommend this stove to anyone. You won't be disappointed.
