Willow Tree Tapestry, Sculpted Hand-Painted Figure

I like the Willow Tree figurine line in general, because each figurine, no matter which one you would choose, allows each person to see and feel what they see in the figurines pose, as they are basically faceless. I also prefer the less tall figurines, as they seem less likely they might accidentally get knocked over, whereas the taller ones, that is more of a risk. The Tapestry figurine has lots of different things carved into the dress of the figurine, so there is lots to look at on the dress. And what is unique with this figurine is the fact that the every carving that makes up the dress, along with the figurine's hair, has all been highlighted using gold foil which was hand applied, so it is easy to see all the various things that were carved. The gold foil definitely makes this figurine stand out. I happen to love the foil, though if you like the understated look of most Willow Tree pieces, you may prefer something else done by this artist. I took a photo of a message from Willow Tree about their use of gold foil, hoping you could read it before deciding if this figurine is the one for you. Since it is still hard to read I will type it into this review too. "The gold foil on this piece was applied by hand, and therefore delicate. It may flake off or dull if handled excessively." I picked this figurine up and held it for maybe 30 seconds to quickly look at the dress before writing this review. I then sat the figurine down and checked my hand and there were about 7 or 8 small gold flakes stuck to my fingertips. I mention this because it does need less handling if every time it is touched, the gold foil is going to flake off in the same amount. I have not had my figurine long, so hopefully, the flaking lessens over time. Time will tell. Flaking or not, it is still my favorite Willow Tree figurine.

Elegant gift for my friend who recently lost her husband. The carving on the dress and “gold wash” hi lights gives it a rich look. She is an artist and admired these added features.

I have sent this wonderful little Willow Tree Tapestry figure to several of my closest widows and friends. Flowers just die and are ridiculously expensive. So, I buy one of these figures because who in this world doesn't have a "tapestry"of their own? There's a card on the figure where I can write "Thinking of you" and "remembering (deceased'd name) and then sending it to the recipient as late as the deceaced'd first anniversary. My friends have many things but they have all raved about how touched they are with this figure and message from me. I haven't done it but there are many other Willow Tree figures suitable for adding to this one.

This is my favorite gift for those having lost a loved one. The figure grips her heart in sadness and pain bowing in faith with strength but sorrow. The gold and cream coloring and intricate carved designs in the gown are subtle and symbolic to support our lady's grief. I first saw this when I received it as a gift myself from a dear friend when my brother passed away. I identified with her immediately. She still brings me comfort as I have associated memories of my dear brother when I look at her. I have since sent this to friends and relatives who too have lost loved ones. More than a figurine, it creates a new personal memory of love lost.
