Biona Organic Rice Syrup, 350g

I use this product as a part of fructose free diet as per David Gillespie’s book “The Sweet Poison Quit Plan”. There are so many non-refined sugar alternatives that claim to be healthier for us, but a lot of them have even higher fructose levels, which is so highly addictive and is not easily absorbed by our bodies. Rice malt syrup does not have any fructose and is pure glucose. Virtually every cell in the body can use glucose for energy. In contrast, only liver cells break down fructose and what happens to fructose inside liver cells is complicated. This syrup is a fantastic alternative to other forms of sugar that contain fructose and is great for baking and cooking. Having started the sugar free diet I would probably be happy not to use any sweeteners in my diet at all, However my kids love having treats and they love baking. It does take some experimenting with the recipes to achieve a desired result, but we found it works very well for cookies and muffins. Kids also love putting it on top of pancakes and plain yoghurt. It does taste different to sugar and other high fructose syrups, like maple, agave etc. It has a milder less sweet taste, but i find it is very similar to golden syrup. I’m so glad it has passed the children's approval test so they can occasionally enjoy guilt-free fructose-free treats. I order my groceries from Tesco and it is slightly frustrating they don’t stock this product. I have previously bought it from Waitrose, however Amazon price for 3 packs is a good value for money and tends to last me a while. I cannot recommend this product enough to everyone trying to have a healthier diet and eat less sugar. I would also highly recommend reading David Gillespie’s book!

There's better health benefits to this than golden syrup, less sugar and a good taste.

Perfect for when you don't want to use refined

I love Biona Brown Rice Syrup. It taste so good. It’s lovely sweet and mild. Perfect for someone who doesn’t like other syrups (like maple for example...) or as an alternative to refined sugar. Have bought before (in whole foods) and will DEFINITELY buy again!

I'd never heard of this syrup until I started a sugar free diet and I found a lot of the recipes called for this syrup as it is very low sugar compared with Agave or Maple syrup. I use it in coffee and desserts and it adds a little bit of sweetness without being too overpowering.

I’ve given up all refined sugar and now use this to make sweet treats and put it in my coffee if I want to add some sweetness. Not as sweet as honey but same thickness. I’ll keep buying.
