Could the cover be customized either by the manufacturer or the customer? It looks like a great blank canvas...

With the speed of shipping I suspect Amazon has them already packaged for shipment so no customization; however, as a customer, customization is a VERY broad term. The leather is very soft so one could burn or paint the leather but it could not be tooled. It’s an awesome journal and paper quality is amazing!

What kind of ink works on this? I tried to use a fountain pen with Mont Blanc ink and the paper resisted taking the ink and didn't seem to work?

Don't use fountain pen ink or a fountain pen. This type of paper will only accept rollerball pen ink or ballpoint pen. I tried a fountain pen and fountain pen ink, but it basically ran off the page and just made a mess! I have had really good results with rollerball gel ink. This is my preference. Hope this helps?

Does the 11.5x8.25 inch one have deckle paper as well?

Great product!

I have been wanting to have a journal/diary that I can write and yet feel like I traveled back in time, and this product is perfect for that! The papers quality, the leather, everything is perfectly crafted and put together. Although, if you use a calligraphy pen (fountain pen), make sure you know, that it won't show as well, as if you use any other kind - tough it could just be from the fact, that mine is refillable. Other than that it is an amazing, well-made journal!

A lot smaller than I thought!

I bought this item for my older brother! He is quite talented in drawing fantasy art and characters along with coming up with very good stories! I thought this would be a great item for him to do a graphic novel in one day! I just hope that he can draw and write in tiny letters! He can always use it as a journal I guess as long as his day was short!
