A step up over the old FoodSaver
After about a decade or so, my FoodSaver v4400 suddenly died. At the time of its purchase, it was the top of the line. I thought about replacing it with another one, but then I recalled that it was not exactly the best experience. The automated bag detection system worked, but the reason it existed in the first place is because the user had to stick the bag into a slot far enough for the machine to functional, but not too far. This meant that there was some trial and error with each usage. I also remembered that the I could not always get great suction or an ideal seal. Again, this was a function of the design. I read a number of reviews for the latest FoodSavers and many of the reviews state that the newer ones are not as good as the earlier models. These were the things that led me to consider alternative solutions. Most of the reviews of today's top vacuum sealers indicated that either the Anova or the Nesco was a better choice. I opted for the Anova over the Nesco because of one simple feature. With the Anova, I can keep sealing one bag and another. The Nesco needs time in between seals to rest. Because I tend to do all the bagging and then all the sealing, the Anova made a lot more sense. If that is not your habit, you might prefer the superior vacuum strength of the Nesco. The Anova turned out to be the answer to all my problems. The design is much different. The user can see the seal strip and where the bag goes for vacuuming making the whole operation easy and predictable. The Anova simply has more vacuum suction power than by old V4400 and that not only translates to an improved reduction of air, but also significantly faster vacuuming. It does, however, take a little longer to seal - and that is probably in part due to the superior double seal. Overall, I think it is faster. More importantly, it does a better job, and it does it all the time. It is also a small and lighter machine offering all the features of the v4400 -for about 1/2 the cost. I do not know yet if the Anova will last 10 years, but it does come with a warranty that is double that of a new v4400. And it can use the exact same bags as the FoodSaver.

Great product!!
This vacuum sealer was very easy to use, and I really like that the roll of bags can be stored inside. The lid goes down easily and keeps the food sealed good and fresh. The size was perfect for me and the value of it was great. I would recommend this product. I have used others, but I really like this one the best.

Review after one year of use
I've been using this vacuum sealer regularly for about a year now and feel that I can give a good balanced review now. I use it for sous vide cooking and also to prepare food items for freezer storage. The unit worked great for the first 3 months. It sucked every bit the air out of the bags and made a perfect seal. After the 4 month mark, I noticed it was more finicky - it would take several attempts, and the bag had to be positioned just so, in order to get all the air out. A few times the seal proved to be not perfect and it let air into the bag and allowed fluid to leak into the sous vide bath. Lately it works only half the time - it takes multiple attempts to get a true vacuum and I have to seal at least twice to be sure the seal will hold in the sous vide. Another annoying thins is that the controls don't work as before - it used to be one click to vacuum and seal, now it's hit and miss if the seal function will work after the vacuum function. Another thing is the external pulse vacuum feature - so you can use use reusable bags - does not work at all - no suction whatsoever. I'm frankly disappointed that the unit failed after only a year. It's out of warranty so I can't get warranty service. I would not purchase this again nor recommend it. While it is inexpensive relative to other better known brands, it does not go the distance. If I had to do it over again, I would spend more money for a unit with better longevity. Or get a much cheaper brand that I know I'll have to replace in a year - which I loathe doing.

Very good sealer
For a non-professional edge sealer, this is quite good. My favorite features are the double seal and it did not need to cool down after a few vacuum sealing sessions. On a recent trip, I was able to vacuum seal 30+ bags of fish per day (3 day trip) without needing to stop. It is rated for 100 vacuum sealings before needing to cool down. This is a huge sealing time improvement over my food saver. Basically, it just worked. The pump does not appear to be as powerful as other sealers I have used. However, this was not a problem. Like any edge sealer, the open end of the bag needs to be clear of water and debris or you may not seal properly. In my opinion, for ease of use and value, this is hard to beat. I was able to get this on sale for $99.

Good, could be better
When I needed a new vacuum sealer I was excited to give the Vacuum Sealer Pro a chance based on my experience with the Anova Sous Vide cookers. Other than my experience with the sous vide giving me confidence in the brand, I chose this because it specifically called out being able to seal a large number of bags in succession which is something my FoodSaver struggled with and in my limited usage so far it does deliver on that promise. I do have a few gripes though, none of which are deal breakers on their own or enough for me to return it but are things that cheapen the experience and I think would prevent me from buying another in the future especially at full price. The first is the thickness of the base makes it so I have to either cut way too much extra bag or prop up the bag on something like a cutting board so it can sit closer the opening otherwise you won't be able to get the bag into the unit far enough to get a good vacuum and seal. Second, the drip tray is not removable so when you do get any juices into the unit you cant clean it as easily as even the bottom tier vacuum sealers from other brands, this is a bit of a sanitary issue since you can't clean it as thoroughly as units with a removable tray. My final gripe is the lack of included accessory hose. It's such a small thing and Anova currently sells it for $7, this seems like something that should be included in a "pro" machine. It may be user error somehow, but I have an issue when running the "vacuum & seal" cycle, the bag will vacuum and it will switch to the seal stage but it never actually seals the bag and there are no signs on the bag that any heat was applied, rerunning the cycle resolves it, but it has happened 3 or 4 times in about 30 bags sealed. I will keep an eye on it to see if it continues to be a problem. It's not the end of the world but is something that shouldn't be happening. I also tried the included roll of material to ensure it wasn't some kind of compatibility issue with the third party bags I have been using and the same thing happened. I do highly recommend if you do buy this unit you buy basically any other brand of material. The bags/rolls are so severely overpriced compared to competitors and mine has worked with both FoodSaver and Kirkland signature bags without issue so far. Overall it is worth the current Amazon sale price of $99 but I don't recommend it at full price as it just doesn't elevate the experience over other brands you can buy for $100 or less. I also have a chamber sealer that is starting to act up and parts are no longer available for it, I was considering the anova chamber sealer but at this point I think I will look elsewhere.

A Fast, Reliable Upgrade That Beats FoodSaver
The Anova Culinary Precision Vacuum Sealer Pro is a huge upgrade from my old FoodSaver, which didn’t even last two years. This unit is fast, easy to use, and surprisingly compact. It seals perfectly every time and feels far more solid and reliable. Very happy with the switch — highly recommend.

Game changer for buying in bulk
I had never used a vacuum sealer prior to getting this, but it was easy to get started after watching a 5 minute Youtube video. I buy meat in bulk very often, and used to tie up plastic bags to store them, but encountered freezer burn quite often. After having used this for a year, I can say that this has stopped my freezer burn problem! I like that it is rectangular and fairly small in profile, so it is easy to store when you are not using it, and you can stack things on top of it as well. I find myself using it very regularly for all different kinds of food, and you can even just use the heat seal function for bags of chips or other frozen bags of food that you don't finish. Pretty easy to clean - just remove the gasket and wipe it away. The one downside is that the automatic vacuum and seal function sometimes sucks in too much fluid for items with liquid (even when using Wet mode), but using the manual option is not really burdensome at all. It has held up to weekly use for the past year without any issues. And I have been able to use third party bags without issue (the only thing is that because it is a little smaller you may not be able to fit large rolls of bags entirely into the machine, but you can just cut it down and it works just fine)

Great product.
So far so good. Far easier to use than FoodSaver (no need to get bag inserted into slot is the key improvement). Pulse is great. Size is great. I use it far more often due to ease of use and size. I like the double seal.
