Dr Tims is the best for starting new tanks

Dr Tim's One and Only Bacteria Starter.
The product does exactly what it is supposed to do. I had to tear down a reef tank after I had a big die off due to a power failure, and this is just what I needed. This is a very good product. I have used this product in the past for setting up new saltwater and brackish aquariums.

For new startup tanks or tanks with ammonia problems
Okay, for those trying to use this as a “cleaner” noting will do that except weekly water changes. This product is for tank bacteria startup. I have been keeping fresh and saltwater aquariums since 2003, there in no other tank bacteria on the market that works except this one. I tried more than I can count and this was the only one that enabled me to have a stable environment for my fish upon first fish placement in a few days to a week. One note, make sure you add ammonia drops to the water per instructions so the bacteria can multiply before adding your fish. If you want to keep fish without them dying to ammonia in the water, this is the product for you.

Awesome
This product is great. Easy to use very clear and precise instructions. To be used to ammonia to go along with it and they sell that too. Would recommend to a friend or anybody else.

Perfect
Worked perfectly to cycle my tank!

Probably Worked
This product seemed to shorten the cycling time but it is hard to say for sure. I used this product without fish and just added ammonia and the tank was cycled within two weeks.

My favorite bottled bacteria
I have been using this bottle bacteria to start up 10+ tanks over the years and probably will continue to do so. I think what many people get wrong is either (A) they think the cycle is instant or (B) they follow the chart to a “T”. You don’t add the second drops of ammonium chloride until ammonia reads 0.4 or less and you don’t do water changes unless pH drops below 7. I’ve had tanks cycle in 9 days and I have had tanks take up to a month to cycle. Just be patient. Nothing comes fast or easy in this hobby

I was trying to get a new marine tank to cycle. Nothing I did got the ammonia and nitrites moving. Added Dr. Tim’s and it was cycled and fish ready in 5 days.

I think there are too many variables in the storage and shipping process for this product to consistently work. Seems some have no issues with this product and others like myself find that it did not do anything, certainly didn't speed the process up, and I would never add life to the aquarium relying on this product to do the job they claim it does. I was doing a fish-less cycle, followed the directions exactly as the manufacturer states on their website, and never saw any indication this product was working. On the Dr Tim's website they state one and only will last 6 months at room temperature's 65 to 85°F and 1 year at cooler temps 50F, however the expiry date on the bottle I received is 8 months from now, and certainly doubt Amazon is keeping this product at 50F, so seems to be you may end up with nothing but overpriced water and bacteria if you receive an older batch, and of course we have no idea what temps the product has been exposed to in shipping, it wasn't below freezing at the destination, but who knows in route as it took 4 days to arrive, so maybe it was frozen in shipping? If there was a store who sold it locally and I could get a new batch, I would give it a go again, but with shipping there simply seems to be too many variables that can end up killing the bacteria and thus the product not working. I ended up just getting some established live rock rubble from another hobbyist with an established tank, this all around method seems to be the best way to seed a tank.

Not sure if I got bad batch, but it absolutely did nothing. Date showed almost 1 more year before expiration, so it wasn't old. Dumped half bottle to my new 10gal quarantine bare bottom tank, along with their Ammonium Chloride(per spec). Ten days later ammonia is still sky high, Nitrite 0.05-0.1, so I dumped rest of bottle in. Three days later no change, it just goes through normal cycle process I guess. Seems I'm not getting anything benefit from this product, $40 down the drain. I'm not running anything as far as filtration, everything is pulled out so tank can cycle. Only thing in tank is Siporax so bacteria will have place to settle, and return pipe working to cycle water.
