Blues Hit Big Town

Chicago blues at their finest. Only limited by the 4 minute rule. Highly recommend this album

This is an outstanding album, classic Chicago Blues at its finest. If you were allowed to have only one blues album, Blues Hit Big Town would fill the bill. Wells voice had not yet acquired the deep, gravelly quality of his mature recordings, but his youthful tenor adds to the album's charm. I purchased this CD after hearing one cut played on a local radio station. I'm writing this review while listening to the cuts. I still haven't heard the alternate takes, but I'm completely taken with the magic of this CD. Totally satisfied. Now that I've listened to all the tracks, it is interesting to note that, on the last cut, an alternate take of Blues Hit Big Town, Well's voice sounds more like what we are accustomed to hearing on his later recordings.

Rare is the occasion when, for the rest of your life, you will forever live in the shadow of your first published work, be it music, literature, film, etc. Such is the case with Blues Hit Big Town, unmatched by Junior Wells since in its virtuosity, intensity and creativity. Chicago attack harp at its zenith. The best rendition of Hoodoo Man Blues resides on this recording.

Really great songs by a legend.

Bellissima edizione della Delmark di uno dei primi dischi pubblicati da Wells con aggiunta di inediti e alternate take.Wells è indibbiamente un grande dell'armonica blues; anche se non innovativo come i più famosi Little e Big Walter. In questo disco, nei brani dove suona soprattutto acustico, lo ritengo eccezzionale.Lo accompagnano grandi bluesman e i brani sono forse poco conosciuti ma indubbiamente ricchi di colori e sfumature blues, un blues rilassato ma incisivo. Lo ritengo tra gli armonicisti quello con la voce più bella.
